Spent a very worthwhile hour and a half watching ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS last night. Went in knowing almost nothing and came out feeling like I'd spent the night lost and wandering around Paris.
Not sure why I slept on Peckinpah's THE KILLER ELITE (1975) for years until last night, but it's gritty disreputable 70s pulp with an insane cast. A crisp widescreen version is on @PrimeVideo. The crappy-looking trailer that autoplayed gives away too much and should be ignored.
Grew up at that particular moment in pop culture history where I was initally convinced Roger Waters was singing about Dukes of Hazzard in the classroom.
A Steely Dan TV show, but in the style of a late 70s/early 80s ABC multi-cam sitcom, e.g. Bosom Buddies
Sets include: WALTER'S APARTMENT (upstairs), DONALD'S APARTMENT (downstairs); RECORDING STUDIO; ENGINEERING BOOTH; LABEL EXEC'S OFFICE; THERAPIST'S OFFICE; FERN BAR. 9:30 p.m.
Today’s writing tip: if you name a character Earl and decide to change it later to Bob, be prepared to find about 70 incidences of phrases like “he’d given her a pBob necklace two months Bobier.”
Happy Birthday to ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, released one year ago today. Feeling more and more like this was the last great film, hell the last great anything, before the world ended. Gonna watch it again tonight, it means even more now.
