🏇 WFA Performance Ratings ⏱️⚖️📊 - Five Highest Rated Winners 4/7/26:
🫡 General Salute - 100.0
Improved on his previous best of 97 in the spring with a 100 rated win in the Winter Stakes at Rosehill. He's improved his peak in each of his last three preparations.
🪩 Dark Glitter - 98.5
8th this preparation and at start number 46, she was well backed at long odds, suggesting improvement was expected, and she delivered. 8L off the lead at the 800m, she ran down the in-form Smashing Time over 1200m at Rosehill to win comfortably by 1.2 lengths, improving her previous peak of 94.2 to a new career-high of 98.5. It was her first win in 24 starts and, given her overall profile, I'd be cautious about expecting a repeat, but she was excellent on the day.
📈 Balance The Books - 97.5
Continued her upward progression for Tony Gollan, backing up her previous peak of 92.8 last start with a more impressive 97.5 rating, winning by 4.3 lengths over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast. Her sectionals were dominant, and she was particularly strong over the final 200m, running +2.6L above standard. If she can reproduce anything close to this level, lower-level stakes races are within her reach.
💎Duchess Zou - 97.3
Previously established around a peak of 94.5, which she has run three times, including her previous two starts, she went to another level, winning the Leilani Series Final over 1400m at Flemington with a 97.3 rating. It was her fourth win from five starts at 1400m, and there's enough in her sectional profile to suggest she could step up to 1600m.
💪 Thebudgiesmuggla - 97.0
Picked up his second consecutive Listed win in the Caloundra Cup (2400m), producing a new peak rating of 97, almost two lengths above his previous best of 94. Normally an on-pace or handy runner, he ended up 8L back off a strong early speed from his wide draw, with the pressure increasing further from the 800m mark. While that pace suited him, he still sustained a strong chase from the 800m, travelled stylishly into the race to take over just inside the 300m mark, and was never in danger after that, despite the runner-up making some late ground.
CAMERON MYERS🇦🇺
Australia's new 1500m & Mile record holder, winning the Bowerman Mile for the first time by an Australian
As Steve Cram says: "Look at that … not stressed, not strained ... He is strong, he’s fast and he’s just 20 ... watch this fella."
📽️ Age of Sports
JOLIESTAR ever so brave. Going down in a head bobber. OVERPASS just punctured late on the backup. Again they have done us proud.
Such an amazing carnival #RoyalAscot
🏇 WFA Performance Ratings ⏱️⚖️📊 - Five Highest Rated Winners 6/6/26:
🔥 Fireball Miss - 99
Took a big step up from her 93 rating win in The Roses at Doomben to rate 99 in winning the G1 QLD Oaks. She travelled wide throughout, albeit with cover, then fanned very wide on the bend before unleashing a strong turn of foot from the top of the straight. She had the race put away passing the 200m mark and was never in danger from there. This performance came at her seventh run in her first racing preparation, after debuting over 1200m at Warwick Farm in early February. Her last four runs show a sharp upward trajectory of improvement: 88.8, 90.3, 93.0 and now 99. She must have a terrific constitution to keep finding new levels this deep into her first campaign. Her 99 rating sits comfortably above the last three Oaks winners: You Wahng (97.5), Socks Nation (96) and Amokura (97.5), and matches Duais (99) in 2021. The highest-rated winners in the last 10 years, Gypsy Goddess and Egg Tart, are only just ahead at 100.
⚡️ Cool Jakey - 98.5
Fresh off a seven-week break, he showed plenty of substance to sit outside the lead at a strong speed before forging clear passing the 300m mark, and then holding the challengers at bay to score comfortably by 1.2 lengths in fast overall time after adjusting for conditions on the day. The win earned him a 98.5 rating, a new peak that improved on his previous best of 97.5, which came nine starts ago at the end of his campaign last winter.
📈 Ice Kool - 98.0
Resumed at just his fourth career start with an impressive 98 rating win over 1000m, improving on the 95.8 and 95.3 ratings he produced during his first preparation. There was plenty to like about the way he travelled so well in the early part of the straight before responding when Jay Ford asked for his maximum effort passing the 200m mark. He quickly stamped his authority on the race and was then allowed to coast to the line late. While this was a BM78 win, a 98 rating suggests he can measure up in lower-level stakes company.
🙌 Uncommon James - 96.5
Appreciated getting back on top of the ground after two below-par performances on Soft 7 and Heavy 8 tracks, winning the G2 Moreton Cup with a 96.5 rating. He looked under plenty of pressure rounding the turn but kept responding, gaining the upper hand on Hidden Wealth inside the 100m before fighting off Oak Hill in the final strides. A 96.5 rating is moderate by Group 2 standards and well below his 101.8 peak when winning the 2023 G1 Oakleigh Plate, but it was his first win since that race and a welcome return to the winner's stall.
🌦️ Water Eternal - 96.3
Known as a horse that relishes wet ground, with all six of his previous wins coming on Soft or Heavy tracks, including his last-start 1600m win at Doomben, he put his best foot forward on a Good track this time to win the Listed Spear Chief at Eagle Farm with a 96.3 rating. Prior to this race, he had been winless in 13 attempts on Good ground, making his performance all the more noteworthy. His 96.3 rating now ranks as the second-best rating of his career, behind only his 96.7 peak on a Soft 6 surface. The market was clearly against him at $26, having started $4.60 on wet ground at his previous run, so it will be interesting to see how he's assessed next time he steps out on a Good track.
🏇 WFA Performance Ratings ⏱️⚖️📊 - Five Highest Rated Winners 23/5/26:
📈 Birdman - 103
Confirmed he is right in career-best form, with Saturday’s win a new peak, up from the 101.3 he ran last start when chasing strongly behind Pride Of Jenni over 1800m in the Hollindale Stakes. He found a little more early pace in this race, and the extra 200m was in his favour. While he faltered slightly on Australia Cup Day, rating 96.7 when chasing Pride Of Jenni in the race won by Light Infantry Man, his form either side has been excellent. His two prior wins this preparation rated 98.5 and 99.8 (both peaks), followed by 101.3 and now 103 from his past two runs.
⚡️ Meridius - 98.5
Chased a strong speed over 1400m at Sandown and sustained that chase to win in fast time, while still above standard over the final 200m. That gives his 98.5 win some substance and represents a clear new peak, up from the 95.5 he ran first-up this preparation.
🚀 Flying Destiny - 96
Made it four straight wins deep into his current preparation, with Saturday’s 96 rating a new peak, up from 95. Two of those wins have come over 1110m at Doomben, with the other two at the Gold Coast over 1000m and 1100m.
🎯 Abounding - 94.5
Returned to a level right near her best with her 1350m win in the Group 3 BRC Sprint at Doomben. Her career peak remains 96.6, which came two years ago when beaten 2.2L in the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara. Aside from that, she has run between 94 and 96 on nine other occasions across her remaining 31 starts. She is unlikely to be getting any better, but she has found something close to her best again and has shown in the past that she can hold good form.
🙌 Pinito - 94.5
Had mixed her form this preparation, coming off ratings of 89.5 and 86.8 at her previous two starts, but bounced back to the winner’s stall in the Group 3 Magic Millions Mile for Fillies & Mares. Her two peaks remain a 97.4 close second in last year’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks over 2200m and a 97.2 win over 1600m at Randwick four runs earlier this preparation.
🏇 Wigmore ran a 95.5 WFA Performance Rating ⏱️⚖️📊 to win the G1 SA Derby.
Russian Camelot (103.5) and Explosive Jack (101) remain the clear benchmark winners of this race in recent years.
🏇 WFA Performance Ratings ⏱️⚖️📊 - Top 5 winners from Day 1 of The Championships at Randwick:
🌏 Sheza Alibi - 109: Produced one of the more remarkable performances in recent years with a stunning win in the G1 Doncaster, an elite world-class performance.
That's already adjusted to weight-for-age and therefore accounts for her 49kg. It is the highest-rated performance by a 3YO in Australia or New Zealand in at least the past decade.
She was 10.7 lengths off the lead at the 800m, still 5.8 lengths back at the 400m and near last, yet had the race won by the 200m.
That rating improved on her 105.3 Randwick Guineas win, reflected by a 4-length faster overall time and much faster finishing speed.
She is clearly the highest-rated Doncaster winner of the past decade, both at the weights carried and on a WFA-adjusted basis.
Prior to that, Winx ran 111.5 when winning the 2016 Doncaster as a 4YO, having already run 113 earlier that season in her first Cox Plate win.
Sheza Alibi is still only a 3YO filly and will line up as a 4YO by the time the Cox Plate comes around this spring.
What made her win even more noteworthy, especially from a future perspective, was the combination of such fast overall time and sustained finishing speed. She ran +12.9 lengths above standard overall and +4.4 for her final 200m. That speed profile is exceptionally rare and says that 2000m will hold no concerns. There is every reason to think she can be just as effective, if not better at that trip.
The Cox Plate is the obvious spring target from a racing purist’s perspective, but the lure of an extra $1m+ in prizemoney for first place in the Golden Eagle (1500m) will likely see that race enter the equation.
💎 Joliestar - 103.7: Made it three straight wins this preparation, the last two at Group 1 level, taking her career tally to five. Her 103.7 sits within a length of her peaks of 105.2 and 105, and is clearly her best rating third-up or deeper into a campaign. It also stands as her top performance on a track worse than Good, improving on her previous best of 101.3 on a Soft 5.
🎯 Green Spaces - 100: Continued his upward progression, improving on his 97.7 rating when second in the Rosehill Guineas over 2000m with a 100 rating win in the G1 ATC Derby. TJames McDonald setting a good rolling speed aboard Observer to the 1200m, easing through the mid-race to the 800m before building again, creating a decent staying test. Green Spaces relaxed well, travelled strongly into the race and took control by the 200m, pulling away for a dominant 3.2 length win. Despite the margin, his 100 rating sits 0.8 lengths below the 10-year winning average. It rates above recent winners like Major Beel (99 in 2023) and Jon Snow (99 in 2017), but comfortably below Aeliana’s 103.3 last year, which remains the benchmark of the past decade.
📈 Campione D'Italia - 97.5: Improved on his 96.2 Golden Slipper rating to win the G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes with a 97.5 performance. That sits above Vinrock’s 96.5 winning figure last year, but around a length below the 10-year average of 99.5. What's likable about him is that he still looks a work in progress, both in his physical development and racing manners. The Chris Waller Racing stable has a strong record of taking this type of 2YO and progressing them into higher-level 3YOs, and Campione D’Italia profiles as one that can follow that path.
👌 Profoundly - 96.5: Relished the step up to 2000m, winning the G3 Adrian Knox Stakes impressively with a 96.5 rating, a clear improvement on her previous peak of 90. She showed a strong turn of foot between the 400m and 200m and sustained that effort late, running +1.4 lengths above standard for the final 200m. She looks like a filly capable of handling the step up to 2400m in the Oaks this Saturday if she backs up and her rating makes her hard to beat. Her 96.5 sits slightly above the 96 run by After Summer when near dead-heating in the G1 Vinery Stud Stakes, and above the 94.8 from Ohope Wins, who finished fourth. That same filly had run a comparable 96.5 when winning the G1 New Zealand Oaks prior to coming to Australia.
WELL WRITTEN is ready for New Zealand's richest race!
The unbeaten star returns this Saturday for the NZD$4m NZB Kiwi at @Ellerslie_Races... 🤩 @TAB_NZL
This is the first time since 2006-07 (when it was released at the end of the southern hemisphere season) that Australia's highest-rated horses have been as low as 120, when El Segundo, Miss Andretti, Takeover Target and Pompeii Ruler were all at that mark.
Think About It (2023) and Weekend Hussler (2008) were both 122, they were the lowest since.
