While serving a life sentence for murder, Rocky Beamon stalked and brutally murdered a fellow inmate, who was serving a life sentence for raping a 10-year-old girl. Despite this murder, Beamon was later given a child rapist as a cellmate, who he promptly murdered as well.

He would profess his hatred for sex offenders, saying that killing them gave him "the best feeling I’ve had in a long time", and that he would continue to kill them unless he was executed. Beamon was sentenced to death but killed himself while on death row in 2020.

In February 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. As a result more than 110,000 Japanese immigrants and Japanese American citizens were forced from their homes and transported to internment camps far from home.

There they were kept under armed guard for the rest of the war. It was the largest forced relocation in American history.

These actions were initiated following Imperial Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941.

25-year-old Missouri woman, Patricia Stallings, gave birth to a son named Ryan in April 1989. Three months later, Ryan became ill and was taken to the hospital, where doctors found a high level of ethylene glycol, a component of antifreeze, in his system. The doctors concluded that he had been purposely poisoned by his mother.

Patricia was taken into custody after Ryan died from the illness. However, while in custody awaiting trial, she gave birth to another son named David on February 17, 1990. David was put into foster care but later developed the same symptoms that Ryan had before he died. He was diagnosed with a very rare genetic condition called Methylmalonic acidemia, which can mimic antifreeze poisoning.

Patricia went to trial and was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. However, after the case was featured on the television program "Unsolved Mysteries," an experienced doctor decided to take a sample of Ryan's blood for further screening. The doctor found that Ryan had actually died from the same genetic condition as David.

As a result, Patricia was released from prison and the case against her was dropped in September 1991.

The North Atlantic is in uncharted territory.

The entire ocean basin is a record-smashing 1.5°C above normal, as millions of square miles of ocean experience strong to severe marine heatwaves.

Off the coast of Canada, ocean temperatures are up to 9°C (16°F) above average!

These record-warm temperatures are already having devastating impacts on marine ecosystems. In Florida, water temperatures have soared as high as 98°F (36.7°C), with coral bleaching ongoing and expected to rapidly ramp up throughout the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean in the coming weeks.

Record-warm ocean temperatures in the Atlantic will also fuel potentially stronger hurricanes and a more active hurricane season. More heat in the ocean equals more energy, increasing the upper limit of hurricane strength and thus exponentially increasing the damage potential of storms.

For example, a 110 mph Category 2 hurricane has over 2x the damage potential of a 100 mph Category 2 storm.

With over a month until water temperatures typically peak, the North Atlantic is just 0.1°C away from tying the all-time record for its highest ocean temperature (set last year), which it will inevitably break in the coming days.
