I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the relationship between money, possessions, obligations, and time.
We tend to think of them as separate things.
I’m increasingly convinced they aren’t.
Debt is a claim on future time.
A possession can be a claim on future time.
A commitment is explicitly a claim on future time.
And money, at its most useful, may simply be a tool that allows us to regain control over that time.
That changes the question from:
“Can I afford this?”
to:
“Is this worth the portion of my future life it will require?”
That doesn’t mean rejecting consumption, possessions, ambition, or responsibility. Many of the best things in life deserve enormous amounts of our time.
The point is to choose those claims consciously.
My latest piece explores that idea and a simple four-step framework:
Inventory. Study. Note. Transcend.
The goal isn’t to eliminate everything that claims your time.
It’s to make sure the things that do are worth it.

Caleb Wilson looks great and was a great draft pick, but the rest of the Bulls don’t seem to be quite playing as one team yet. Here’s to hoping they get things going quickly this season.
I used to think the destination was the point. Now I’m starting to think the real magic is waking up each day genuinely excited about the journey. I’m grateful to be here for it.
