As part of this day of remembrance, we will be wearing red to honour the women and girls who have been taken and their families and friends who continue to suffer from the tragic loss of their loved ones.
In Canada, Indigenous women are 12 times more likely to be murdered or go missing than other women and 16 times more likely to be murdered or disappear than white women.
Research from Statistics Canada indicates that Indigenous women and girls accounted for almost a quarter of female homicide victims between 2001 and 2015, though they make up only 5% of Canadian women.
The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) was a beginning, not an end. We must all do better for families, survivors and communities.
Toll-free 24/7 crisis call line providing mental health support for anyone who requires emotional assistance related to missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people. For assistance, call 1-844-413-6649.

For #RedDressDay2023, @NWAC_CA is calling all teachers, students, community leaders, youth organizations, and YOU to action.
Since the release of the MMIWG Final Report, the number of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, transgender, two-spirit, and gender-diverse people has increased, and thus the need for additional funding to end this genocide.
Reach out to others to join the day of action to help make 4,000 faceless dolls.
@NWAC_CA is calling to create faceless dolls from Vancouver to Newfoundland and Labrador and everywhere in between.
Why 4,000?
The RCMP estimates the number of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls between 1980 and 2012 at around 1,000, but experts believe the true number is closer to 4,000.
