A story about the tension between personal comfort and building political coalitions, informed by my experience working on a Congressional campaign in a deep red district in 2018.
We have two new episodes in the queue - the first one recorded the day before President Biden announced he would suspend his campaign for re-election, and the second one recorded shortly after Vice President Harris officially became the Democratic nominee. Both go live next week!

Tell Owasso Mayor Kelly Lewis ([email protected]), Police Chief Dan Yancey ([email protected], 918-376-1564), Governor Kevin Stitt ([email protected], 405-521-2342), and the Department of Justice (918-382-2700, https://t.co/dLXmAOKOns) that Nex Benedict matters.
Oh, and don't forget to make sure @ChayaRaichik10 is having a wonderful day. More educational and advocacy resources at https://t.co/UuE055EsxT - check out our podcast and support us on Patreon.
A disgusting abdication of responsibility by the Owasso, Oklahoma Police. I’ll just leave these here: Owasso Mayor Kelly Lewis ([email protected]), Police Chief Dan Yancey ([email protected], 918-376-1564), Governor Kevin Stitt ([email protected], 405-521-2342).
Trans adults, for many of us, were also trans kids.
Despite what the far right likes to pretend.
I didn’t suddenly become trans when I turned 18. That’s not how it works.
Chaya Raichik is a domestic terrorist who routinely incites threats and violence against LGBTQ people. She, along with State Superintendent Ryan Walters and Owasso High School Principal Tiffani Cooper (who opted not to call 911 or file a police report) have blood on their hands.
1. Last month, I reported that Chaya Raichik of Libs of TikTok was appointed by Ryan Walters to "make schools safer" in Oklahoma.
One month later, a trans teen is dead after a year of transphobic bullying.
Their name was Nex.
Chaya Raichik is literally a public official who was given a role in the Oklahoma public education system as part of a plan to "make schools safer."
Now a trans kid is dead and she wants to sue those who blame her for libel.
Good luck with that.
"A hotline run by the Rainbow Youth Project received 237 calls from Oklahoma over the weekend, nearly three times what it logs in an average week. Two-thirds of the callers mentioned Nex’s death. More than 80% said they were victims of bullying." https://t.co/m8B9n7tbV7
It has been a busy day in SF for all our public safety partners. I want to thank our @SF_emergency 911 dispatchers who continue to take hundreds of storm related calls & our emergency managers who activated the EOC & continue to coordinate response & provide critical public info.
1. Yesterday, a dramatic scene unfolded in South Carolina during a gender affirming care ban hearing.
A Republican asked, "where are the studies?" incredulously.
Phillip Ford pulled out a large binder, stating, "I have them right here."

Refusing to name the man who made this threat is a sad excuse for journalism and actively encourages this behavior by strongly implying that there will be no consequences for making death threats - even if you call from your own, unblocked phone number.

A reminder that competence is so important especially for local and state government operations.
Meanwhile you have conservative ideologues out there running on genitals and drag shows. Enough of the freak show.
New paper in the Lancet confirms gender-affirming care is preventative care.
Confirms:
- GAC is linked to improved quality of life
- GAC is an integral determinant of well-being
- GAC increases positive psych outcomes
- GAC must be considered preventative mental healthcare
Nearly five decades separate Maggie Hosmer and Tita Kanjanapas, yet the pair are fast friends and connect at least once a week.
It's all part of a program run by @OpenhouseSF to connect LGBTQ+ youth with elders and to foster intergenerational friendships. https://t.co/e34Y0aOlK4
"We get a lot of people who send a lot of terrible things to us, but that doesn't matter. What matters is the person who has been in the closet their whole life, listened to our podcast, and it was the thing that gave them the strength to come out." Thanks for the coverage @ABC7!
Extremely good news everyone.
For the first time, a federal court has ruled that gender affirming care bans are unconstitutional.
This case has gone on for two years now.
And for the plaintiffs, they finally find relief.
No more unconstitutional bans on care.
