Delivering the keynote address, Acting Port Manager for the Port of Cape Town, Ophelia Shabane, MBA, shared insights on driving growth through TNPA’s Ship Repair Strategy and opportunities within the sector. Her address highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen engineering capability, improve operational efficiencies, and unlock economic value across the marine manufacturing and ship repair industry.
Adding to the conversation, Sikhokhele Mngoma participated in a panel discussion focused on collaboration, emerging opportunities and the future of ship repair within the ocean economy.

During the opening of the 2026 DEVAC Infrastructure Summit today, our Chief Executive, Mohammed Abdool, delivered a keynote address and participated in a panel discussion on the future of Africa’s infrastructure development.
The discussions highlighted TNPA’s infrastructure investment pipeline, strategic partnerships and commitment to building a resilient port system through improved operational efficiencies, stronger rail-to-port integration and sustainability initiatives to support long-term trade and economic growth.
The Summit is taking place in Johannesburg under the theme: “Africa’s Infrastructure in Motion – From Projects to Progress.”

This past week, TNPA officially cemented a 20-year Fresh Produce Terminal deal aimed at strengthening South Africa’s citrus exports through the signing of a terminal operator agreement for the redevelopment and operation of the Fresh Produce Terminal at the Port of Durban.
Mthunzi Madiya, National Deputy Director-General for Maritime Transport, emphasized that “This agreement gives FPT the green light to improve and modernize equipment, while unlocking significant socio-economic benefits through infrastructure investment, enterprise development and job creation.”

@TransnetNPA has signed a 20-year terminal operator agreement for the redevelopment and operation of a Fresh Produce Terminal at the Port of Durban’s Point Precinct.
The terminal is projected to increase volume throughput to approximately 1.691 million tons per annum (mtpa) by 2028, with annual growth of around 2%, stabilising at 1.906 mtpa by 2034.

Delivering the keynote address at today’s signing ceremony in Durban, @follow_transnet Group Chief Operating Officer Solly Letsoalo highlighted:
“Partnerships such as this one are important because they reflect confidence in the Port of Durban, confidence in South Africa’s trade potential and confidence in the work being done to strengthen the logistics sector. When our ports perform well, industries grow, exports move efficiently, investor confidence improves, and jobs are supported across the value chain."
The agreement with FPT is part of Transnet Reinvent for Growth strategy, aimed at unlocking investment into critical port infrastructure and strengthening operational capabilities.

@TransnetNPA (TNPA) invites interested parties to submit bids in response to the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the appointment of a terminal operator to finance, operate, maintain, refurbish, and/or construct a Liquid Bulk Terminal, including bunkering and related services, at the Port of Cape Town for a 25-year concession period.
Through this RFP, the Port of Cape Town seeks to retain and enhance a strategically important liquid bulk terminal, ensuring the continuity of critical services. This also supports long-term financial sustainability and optimal infrastructure utilization through private-sector participation.

It is Day 3 of the Regional Workshop on the Maritime Single Window (MSW) and Port Community System in Tanzania. TNPA Acting Chief Harbour Master, Naresh Sewnath, is part of the South African delegation alongside Boitumelo Sathekge Head of ICT and Captain Thulani Dubeko, Harbour Master at the Port of Ngqura.
Together they join key industry leaders in discussions on the implementation of the Maritime Single Window System by member states.
Acting Chief Harbour Master deliberated on discussions around TNPA’s implementation methodology of the Maritime Single Window through the Integrated Port Management System (IPMS). The IPMS automates operations across all eight commercial ports and provides real-time information on a single platform.
This reinforces TNPA’s role in enabling seamless data exchange among government, state-owned entities, and private-sector stakeholders, supporting international trade and strengthening transparency. Captain Naresh reaffirmed TNPA’s commitment to advancing digital transformation and port efficiency.

Over the past two days, TNPA hosted its annual Safety Proficiency Day at the Port of Cape Town under the theme “Ready, Skilled and United”. Teams from across the port system competed in safety demonstration categories, including man-overboard, SHE representative, firefighting, first aid, and environmental stewardship.
Our Acting Chief Executive, Mohammed Abdool, shared: “Safety is in the decisions we make, the shortcuts we refuse to take, and the standards we uphold even when no one is watching".
TNPA remains committed to strengthening health, safety, and environmental systems by investing in training and empowering every employee to speak up and act decisively when safety is at risk.

@TransnetNPA (TNPA) has taken a decisive step to advance South Africa’s food security and improve global trade competitiveness by awarding two landmark concessions in the Maydon Wharf Precinct at the Port of Durban.
African Port Logistics and Infrastructure (Pty) Ltd, trading as KHOLD, has been appointed as the preferred bidder to handle fresh produce and compatible break-bulk cargo. Meanwhile, the BAL SA & Africa Global Logistics Consortium is appointed as the preferred bidder for the development and management of a multi-purpose terminal to handle agricultural dry bulk and other compatible cargo.
These concessions align with Transnet’s Reinvent for Growth Strategy, which focuses on transforming port operations, aligning with national priorities to improve efficiency and boost South Africa's economic growth.

This week, @TransnetNPA (TNPA) donated a converted 12-metre multipurpose container to Siza Community Care, a non-profit organisation (NPO) in Umlazi that provides nutritious meals to over 130 children living with chronic illnesses.
This initiative is part of TNPA’s Corporate Social Investment, which aims to uplift the communities where we operate. The container will assist the NPO in managing the growing number of children they support and will also serve as a secure space for storing essential supplies.
