🏆 Culture Discovery Vacations just won Gold at the Magellan Awards in the FIRST-EVER "Service" category for tour operators.
Our winning entry was called "From Customers to Family."
Here's what that actually means (thread 🧵)
#MagellanAwards#TravelWeekly
Guests return 15, 17, even 20 times. Not because we're perfect, but because they're coming home to friends.
Travel Weekly's judges got it: When everyone's on the same level, travel becomes something that actually matters.
Here's to the next 20 years. 💛

The real test came during COVID.
We livestreamed cooking classes with vendors, helped them sell online, provided free support, and even livestreamed our business meetings.

POV: You just swapped cruise chaos for a private yacht life🚤✨
Imagine this:
ㅤ
You wake up in a secluded turquoise bay with no other ships in sight. You spend the morning paddleboarding, the afternoon feasting in a Croatian family’s backyard, and the evening dancing barefoot on deck as the stars light up the Adriatic sky.💃
By day 3, the ship doesn’t feel like a cruise anymore — it feels like home. The crew know your favorite drink, the other guests feel like old friends, and Croatia stops being a destination and starts feeling like a story you’re part of.❤️
What makes it unforgettable?
ㅤ
🚤 Ultra-small ship (max 28 guests) with spacious decks + luxury comfort
🍷 Open bar & gourmet meals — always included
🏝️ Private bays that even small ships can’t access

Have you ever made your own pottery…
…in the middle of the Portuguese countryside ,
…with a local artisan who learned from his father ,
…then fired it in a hole in the ground using an ancient method recognized by UNESCO 🌍?
We hadn’t either — until we meet Manuel.
During our Portugal vacation 🇵🇹, we visit a small, family-run ceramics workshop tucked away in a quiet village 🏡. Here, black pottery is still made the way it has been for centuries — by hand ✋, with patience ⏳, and a whole lot of fire 🔥.
The technique is called Soenga. It’s raw, smoky, slow… and kind of magical ✨. After shaping the clay on the wheel, the pieces go into a deep earth kiln and get fired with wood. Because of the low oxygen, they turn this deep, velvety black that’s not just beautiful — it’s durable and perfect for cooking 🍲.
We laugh, we get our hands dirty, and take home more than just a piece of pottery.
We take home a memory that sticks with us 💫.

Golden. Crispy. Stuffed with tradition. 🍚✨
In Sicily, we don’t just make Arancini, we debate them!
In Palermo, it’s Arancina 🍊
In Catania, it’s Arancino 🌋
Do you want to know why? You’ll have to come to Sicily to find out and try both to see what side you are on! 😂
ㅤ
These glorious rice balls are filled with creamy saffron risotto, rich meat ragù, and plenty of cheese — then rolled, breaded, and fried until perfectly golden.
ㅤ
We make the pistacchio version with Antonio and his family in their cozy kitchen just outside Bronte, where pistachio trees line the hills and the wine never stops flowing. We get our hands dirty and laugh while we shape, stuff, and fry these delicious treats.
ㅤ
By the end, we’re full of laughter, memories, and arancini. ❤️
ㅤ
🍽 What you’ll need:
• 2.2 lbs Arborio rice
• 10 oz ground beef
• Tomato paste
• Saffron (don’t be shy)
• Grana Padano or Parmigiano
• Onion, carrot, celery
• Eggs, butter, flour
• Salt, pepper
• Oil for frying
• A good appetite and a sense of humor 😄
ㅤ
Want the full recipe? You’ll have to come to Sicily and roll them with us. Just be ready to pick a side in the great Arancino vs. Arancina debate. 😉
