Beyond the Binary: Why the “sex” can be changed.
We often treat the word “sex” as if it’s a simple light switch - just "on or off" or "male or female".
However, if you consult any (decent) biologist or examine the experiences of trans women who have undergone gender-affirming surgery and hormone replacement therapy, you’ll discover that what appears to be a basic switch is actually a sophisticated, multi-layered control panel.
The reality is that many people hold the belief that 'trans women are women' - it's not just the gender-critical that can hold beliefs!
And even if a GC person genuinely holds their beliefs, what can not be denied is that trans women live in womanhood.
Once someone has altered their hormonal profile and physical anatomy, claiming that trans women like myself are “biologically men” epitomises transphobia and disregards scientific evidence.
The Myth of the “Simple” Definition: When people try to define sex, they usually grab the nearest convenient metric. But “sex” isn’t a single data point; it’s a mosaic of several different factors:
Chromosomes: (XX, XY, XXY, etc.)
Gonads: (Ovaries, testes, or streak gonads)
Hormones: (Estrogen vs. Testosterone dominance) Primary Sex Characteristics: (External genitalia)
Secondary Sex Characteristics: (Muscle mass, fat distribution, bone density, hair patterns)
When a trans woman undergoes HRT and surgery, most of these markers shift into the female range. Her blood chemistry, metabolic rate, and anatomy align with those of females.
Insisting she is “still a man” based solely on chromosomes (which most people haven’t even had checked themselves) is simply wrong - the fact is, a person with XY chromosomes has given birth!
Why “Sex” is Hard to Pin Down:
If you try to draw a hard line around “biological sex,” you’ll almost always accidentally exclude cisgender people, too.
Hormones Rule the Body: HRT isn’t merely cosmetic. It alters how the heart functions, how the brain processes emotions, and how the body stores energy. Someone with an oestrogen-dominant system is, in biological terms, operating as female.
The Surgical Reality: After gender-affirming surgery, the primary sex characteristics - the very things society uses to “assign” sex at birth, have changed.
Intersex Variation: Millions of people naturally exist with combinations of traits that don’t fit the XX/XY binary. This demonstrates that biology is a spectrum, not a binary.
The Bottom Line: A trans woman who has transitioned hasn’t just “changed her clothes"; she has fundamentally changed her biological make-up. Calling her a man (the current policy of @SexMattersOrg ) is not only transphobic; it is factually inaccurate.
Perhaps that should not be a surprise, after all, they have also misinterpreted the FWS judgment!
Authenticity is about more than just what’s on a birth certificate; it’s about the lived, physical reality of the person standing in front of you in the round.
@sharrond62 But this is a c*sgender woman who just happens to have high testoterone levels. Shall the 5 other Women who have beaten Imane be banned as well?
If the first thing you say about trans people is about bathrooms or sports & not about how to make the world safer for these beautiful children of God, you need real help.
5⃣ There was a big shock in the Poole constituency which had been held by the Conservative's Sir Robert Syms for 27 years, as he lost out to Labour's Neil Duncan-Jordan, who had a majority of just 18 votes. https://t.co/VYCscFoPQ0 #BBCElection#Poole
The vast majority of trans people report an increase in life satisfaction after transitioning, a record-breaking survey shows.
Over 90,000 people responded, making it the largest-ever survey of trans people in the U.S. https://t.co/jeESXBpWXx

Why is Layton such a problem????
@Robinwindsor@LaytonWilliams I think @LaytonWilliams is a wonderful role model for those in the lgbtq+ community. He is also great entertainment! I have to disagree with those who says he’s a trained dancer yes he went to stage school but how many others have now and in the past. Ellie included, who I love!
#DoctorWho was so great last night, a fun romp and well made. Most of all I was so happy to see Donna respect her trans daughter, and help her mother when she was clumsy with the details, just all the good representation. In times we live in right now it’s what we need to see 🏳️⚧️
