Anyone else find it a little strange that basically every major baseball media outlet has come out this week defending Shohei as soon as he fell behind in the odds?

It's long past time to be honest about what Shohei Ohtani actually is.

He is not a two way player. He is a DH who can pitch.

He can pitch at an elite level, but doesn't do it often.

For reference, Ohtani has 7 innings more as a Dodger (3 seasons) than Cade Horton does in MLB.

Too many idiots don’t understand WAR.

WAR is actually a very simple stat for hitters:

WAR = (Batting Runs + Base Running Runs + Fielding Runs + Positional Adjustment + League Adjustment +Replacement Runs) / (Runs Per Win)

Pete Crow-Armstrong has a higher fWAR than Ohtani because Ohtani has been mid as a hitter (14th in fWAR) compared to his normal self and has only pitched 85 innings.

Look at the formula above, a DH can’t add fielding runs to for or against the equation. Ohtani also stopped stealing bases

PCAs defense is world class at a premium position, he provides a tremendous amount of value on the basepaths as well

World class centerfield defense over 162 games IS more valuable than 85 really good innings pitched.

If Ohtani wants to win the MVP he needs to start pitching again or go on a ridiculous hitting tear
