Rome had its slaves. Athens had its women. Bharat now has its Hindus.
Visible. Tax-paying. Law-abiding.
But spiritually handcuffed and legally gagged — a civilisation in exile within its own skin.
They walk the streets they built, pray in fragments of what once were sanctums, and sing songs whose melodies echo through abandoned corridors of stone.
They have bled at the altar of democracy, believing the promise that justice, though delayed, would not be denied.
But what they face is not delay.
It is decorated denial — wrapped in velvet language, signed by robed mandarins of modernity.
The great invaders came with swords.
But the modern invader comes with scrolls — two, to be precise.
The first scroll, born in 1991 — penned not with ink, but with fear.
A hush passed through Parliament like a ghost, and out came a law that declared:
“Let sleeping ruins lie. Let stolen sanctums rot in silence. Let the gods stay displaced.”
It was not secularism.
It was sedated memory.
A forced amnesia, passed not for peace — but for the comfort of those whose ancestors never paid the price.
So, the temples destroyed were to remain destroyed.
The idols buried, untouched.
The land stolen, unreclaimable.
Because apparently, history must be respected — but only the part where you were conquered.
The second scroll was older. Born in a different empire.
It came robed in Persian, blessed by colonial signatures — the Waqf Act.
A divine loophole so wide, entire cities could disappear into it.
Declare a property “waqf” — and lo, it is no longer public, private, or even accountable.
It becomes sacred. Untouchable.
No consent needed. No notification required. No audit dared.
Just a whisper, and the earth levitates — into divine bureaucracy.
Lakes, markets, railways, cremation grounds, hospitals, courts — all have vanished beneath this holy mist.
Even graveyards grow like empires, encroaching on the living, suffocating the sacred.
And what happens when a timid government finally gathers the courage to peer into this clerical abyss?
The holy gatekeepers awaken.
Not those in mosques or boardrooms — but those in black robes and solemn halls, who speak not in commandments, but in caveats.
They do not burn books.
They simply reinterpret them — until justice becomes a riddle and dharma, a footnote.
The attempt to regulate this unchecked waqf empire is not seen as reform.
It is treated as blasphemy.
The benches rise not to question the empire of faith — but to scold the hand that dared touch it.
They defend the status quo with such fervour, one wonders —
Is this the Supreme Court of a Republic,
or the Shura Council of a Caliphate, draped in constitutional lace?
They wear neutrality like a mask, but their gaze is selective.
Blind not in balance, but in bias.
Deaf not to cries, but to Hindu cries.
Try reclaiming a demolished temple — you’re told it would “disrupt harmony.”
Try questioning a waqf claim on a railway station or a public park — and suddenly, you’re trampling on sanctity.
Is this justice? Or juridical jihad dressed in procedural grace?
What nation builds mosques on graves of temples, and then files lawsuits against lamps lit on Deepawali?
What court can hear decades-old claims of “historic grievance” from one side, but call the other’s memory “communal mischief”?
This is not secularism.
It is clerical feudalism — with legal cover and media incense.
The Waqf Boards today are the new Zamindars, untouchable and unaccountable.
Their files thicker than any land record.
Their signatures heavier than any vote.
They answer to no state, no audit, no law — only themselves.
And the Hindu?
He funds the temples, but doesn’t control them.
He pays taxes that build churches, mosques, madrasas — but his gurukuls crumble.
He is asked to celebrate harmony — but only as long as he agrees to forget.
He is not a citizen.
He is a civilisational tenant, squatting on the ruins of his own inheritance.
