Some of our young people do not just come into our schools with pencils, rubbers & jotters.
The emotional backpacks they carry can be heavier than their bookbags.🧠🌱
Skills are built when brains feel safe.
Not when it is overwhelmed.
Not when it is frightened.
Not when it is focused on survival.
This means.
Compliance does not equal understanding.
Silence does not equal learning
Fear does not equal growth.🧠🌱
Children from battleground childhoods are carrying toxic stress.
They have an inability to regulate their emotions.
This is not about a behaviour problem but an oversensitised stress response.
They need skills to regulate their own stress response & manage big feelings🧠🌱
Pupils with abandonment issues have abandonment wounds & don't trust anyone due to a lack of value in emotional architecture.Waiting for the next bad thing to happen caught up in a cycle of mistrust & trust. Waiting on who is going to help them or who is going to hurt them.🧠🌱

Teachers don’t lose their spark because they stop caring. They lose it because they care too much. It's a system that keeps asking for more while giving less.
And when that spark goes out, the world becomes a little darker, colder, and lonelier. ~ Dr. Brad Johnson
Italian Word of the Day 🇮🇹
💬 Sorriso (soh-REE-zoh) - Smile
📖 Il tuo sorriso illumina la mia giornata.
👉 Your smile brightens my day.
💡 A smile is universal, but in Italy, it's a key part of the warm and welcoming culture that makes the country so beloved by visitors. #ItalianWordOfTheDay
One of the images of Pope Francis that will always be remembered is this one:
Crossing St. Peter's Square alone, empty due to the pandemic, in the rain and silence. No words were needed to capture the moment.
Today is #NationalSiblingDay & I’m sending love to everyone who’s lost a brother or sister.
It should be the longest relationship of our lives & yet we seem to underestimate the lifelong devastation caused by #siblingloss
If you still have yours, give them a big hug today 💙🩷
Been so excited about this since I started with SAMH 18 months ago.
No referrals, no waiting lists, no bookings needed.
Walk-in support and advice with a warm, friendly welcome for all.
I also talk about this tonight on top of lots of other things.
Setting developmental expectations outwith children's reach.
Beyond developmental capabilities.
This sets them up for failure.
I am bad,I am not capable.
We end up diagnosing our pupils as the problem.🧠🌱
