Happy World Water Day!
Vilas County is home to one of the largest collections of freshwater lakes in the world and has more lakes than any other county in Wisconsin. There are over 1,300 lakes covering a total of 93,889 acres.

TFT Summer Internship
Dates: June 2nd-August 8th (some flexibility)
Hours: 40 hrs/wk, with occasional evenings and weekends
Compensation: $3,000 stipend upon successful completion of the internship, dorm-style housing with meals provided during some programs

The bobcat sighted provided a unique opportunity for students to utilize their animal tracking skills to ID the feline's massive paw prints! The snowy prints were ~3 inches & showcased a stalking gait.

#PhenologyFriday Woodpecker are famous for drumming, which is also called rapping, tatting, and tattooing. The tempo, rhythm, duration, and repetition of drumming patterns vary between species. Both males & females drum, mostly in late winter or early spring when seeking mates.

Sugar consumption may occur, so diabetics take care! TFT is hosting Maples: From Sap to Syrup on March 22nd from 10am to 1pm! The beginner friendly workshop goes over the history and science of maple syrup. The cost is $55/person or $70/couple, and includes one kit.
#PhenologyFriday The snow flea is very small insect, about 1/10 inch long and dark blue-gray. Snow fleas have a higher tolerance for colder temperatures compared to typical insects, so as the snow starts to melt in late winter they are able to move up through breaks in the snow.
