• Coffee tree rehabilitation to boost yield.
• Proper preparation of planting holes for better crop establishment.
• Lime application to improve soil health and fertility.
These practical learning sessions are designed to strengthen farmers’ technical knowledge and accelerate the adoption of improved coffee farming practices among participants.
Please note that FFS learning sessions remain ongoing across all six intervention districts.

What are carbon markets and why do they matter?
Carbon markets are emerging as a key tool in the global response to climate change. In simple terms, they allow companies and individuals to offset their greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing carbon credits from projects that reduce or remove emissions.
One carbon credit represents one tonne of CO₂ (or its equivalent) reduced, avoided or removed. Once used, it becomes an offset and cannot be traded again.
Why is this important? According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, global emissions are still rising, and without deep reductions, the world risks exceeding 2°C of warming this century.
At the same time, developing countries may require up to $6 trillion by 2030 to finance their climate goals yet current funding levels remain far below what is needed.
Carbon markets are increasingly seen as part of the solution helping to mobilise investment into projects that support climate action, from renewable energy to sustainable agriculture and conservation.
There are two main types of carbon markets:
• Compliance markets (regulated by governments)
• Voluntary markets (driven by private actors)
As Africa and countries like Rwanda expand their role in carbon markets, the focus is shifting beyond credits to broader questions: who benefits, how value is shared, and how real impact is delivered on the ground.

At #CGIARScalingWeek, ED Dr. Lilian Lihasi of African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services called for a shift in how agricultural innovation is measured.
She said true “scale” is reached only when farmers can access, afford, trust and continue using solutions without external support.
Drawing on work with @AGRA_Africa , she stressed that impact depends on linking advisory services, digital tools and private actors around farmers not isolated approaches.
Her message to researchers: prioritize adoption, involve last-mile actors early, and plan beyond project timelines.
