Thank you to Senator Michael Rodrigues for another great meeting with MAR members from across the state. Thank you to all the members that were able to attend and discuss important issues with the Senator.
The need to promote regionalism is at its highest. I am excited to work with cities and towns along the SouthCoast and Southeastern Massachusetts, by providing statistics and advocating for many impactful housing policies like Accessory Dwelling Units. #ConnectingCommunities
Big thanks to the Mayor, town officials from our region, the Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities, and Mass Inc. for the great discussions. Hopefully this leads to setting up the next steps to working together.
Many thanks to the New Bedford Regeneration Committee, @MassINC and @MA_EOHLC for a timely discussion about housing in Greater #NewBedford today at the @whalingmuseum. Addressing the region’s housing challenges will continue to require a team effort.
From his fundraiser on Monday to the Ways and Means update with One SouthCoast Chamber on Friday, it was a busy week with my former boss. Keep up the great work and we appreciate everything you bring to the SouthCoast.
The city needed someone to acknowledge and help multi-language learners, as well as students with disabilities. After meeting with him, I'm happy to know that he is the person that will help. I am excited to work with @andrewucc on these issues and more.
LISTEN: New Bedford Public Schools Interim Superintendent Andrew O’Leary outlines some of the challenges the district faces and how his team plans to address them.

For a city that wants to be a leader on climate change, we do not have any recycling bins anywhere, which would help get nips, water bottles, and all recycling off the streets.
It’s hard enough owning a business in the City of New Bedford, between the license and permit processes, as well as the property taxes, banning nips is a far fetched approach to resolving littering. Not to mention the overreach of a board that does not have that power.
Defending this is incomprehensible, as it hurts local liquor stores, and anyone else who sells nips. There are other solutions that the board has not discussed, nor did they even make time to consider other alternatives. It makes up between 15%-20% of sales on stores.
The board and commissions are not elected by voters, yet appointed to the position by the Mayor, and would be unconstitutional to give them legislative authority and powers, as those powers should be vested in the council, whom are elected by residents. 🧵
The City Council has the power vested to create policies, ordinances, licensing, permitting, etc.. The Boards and Commissions should have the delegated powers to hold those who inquire, renew their licenses or permit, to the standards and ordinances created by the City Council.🧵
Tune in 10am tomorrow on @WBSM1420. First radio interview and discussing important topics such as special education and maybe even city issues with @marcusferrolaw.
To all the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Star families, Medal of Honor and Purple Heart recipients, those who won’t know their parent who gave up their lives and those who are with us today but struggle from PTSD and Homelessness, hopefully we can give you every resource you need.
I cannot express my gratitude to him, his team, and everyone I have met and worked with during my time. I look forward to working with all of them in the future. 🧵
I’d like to thank the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Ways and Means, Senator Michael Rodrigues for this opportunity, and congratulate him for passing a great bipartisan budget. 🧵
