Games vanish faster than movies or books.

A lot of older games are already hard or impossible to play. Many pre-2010 titles are out of print. Digital stores shut down. Servers for online games get turned off. Discs and cartridges break. New games are increasingly digital-only, which makes the problem worse.

That matters because games are culture, not just products. They show how design, stories, and technology changed.

Future players and developers should still be able to experience them.A few groups are trying to save them: archives, museums, and companies that re-release old games so they work on modern computers. Fans help too, but the law often gets in the way.The simple version: if we don’t copy, document, and keep old games playable, large parts of gaming history will just disappear.

Support physical copies while they last. Support the people doing preservation work. Push companies not to treat games as temporary downloads.
