Frost/Freeze injury on Broccoli in Tifton, GA. The subfreezing temperatures will be followed by a forecast of warmer rainy weather for the next couple of days.
Frost/freeze events the past two days are just about going to wrap up our warm season vegetables in Colquitt/Tift/Worth counties. We will start to prepare land and lay plastic for the spring in a couple of weeks.
This is why alligator weed is so problematic. After two tillage passes it recovers and sprouts back from root systems or stem stolons. Quickly becoming a problem in plasticulture around Colquitt County.
I’ve never seen bacterial wilt take out tomato transplants this small. Plants are usually larger and trying to size fruit before they start to wilt. These transplants don’t have the 1st string on them yet.
The fall battle begins with whiteflies. They are building in old spring crop vegetables and cotton. Populations have been low so far but they are starting to build.
Severe weather, rain every day, high winds, and at least 5 separate days with hail damage since first of May. It's hard to watch and it's getting really old.
Good example I found today of zippering in tomato. A brown scar developes when the bloom tag sticks to the growing fruit. No damage to the fruit just aesthetic. #tomato
The “plant destroyer” phytophthora is a post harvest issue as well. Fruit can appear asymptomatic then begin to break down in the box. When loads are rejected it is at a high cost to the grower. #plantpathology#plantdisease#phytophthora#cucumber
Pith Necrosis in tomato caused by Pseudomonas corrugata. Entire plants will wilt down and adventitious roots are found along main stem. Rotting stem tissue will hollow. #plantpathology#plantdisease#tomato
The first watermelon hasn’t been harvested from this field yet and phytophthora capsici is melting away the fruit and vine. Absolutely devastating disease. #plantpathology#plantdisease#watermelon
