5) Someone who feels like a good match. This means a therapist who will provide the level of structure, guidance, approach and personality you need. You may not know if it's a good fit right away, but know you can always decide to find another therapist if it is not a good fit.
What should you look for in a therapist?
1) Someone who practices evidence-based therapy. This means that the therapy you are receiving is based in science. Science is not perfect, but it gives us a good sense of whether a treatment approach works for the majority of people.
4) Someone who is trauma-informed. This means a therapist who understands the impact of trauma on development and mental health, whether trauma is the focus of therapy or not.
Do you feel like your past is still affecting your present life? You may be experiencing trauma or traumatic stress. Psychotherapy for traumatic stress can be life changing. It was for one of our founders, @DrJulietteM.
