Immigrant community-based Facebook groups serve as vital digital town squares, in which people can connect, share resources, and seek support. These groups are essential for helping newcomers navigate the complexities of housing, employment, healthcare, and immigration policies in their communities. However, this important role comes with significant responsibility: ensuring that misinformation, especially regarding immigration enforcement, does not spread unchecked.

The distribution of false or misleading information about immigration raids, policy changes, or enforcement actions can lead to unnecessary panic, erode trust in authorities, and make communities more vulnerable to exploitation.

In the era of rapid social media sharing, a single unfounded rumor can spread quickly, leading to fear-driven decisions that put immigrants at greater risk. Therefore, online community administrators and members need to take a proactive approach to verifying and sharing accurate information.
