As someone who has seen the original series, I really enjoyed it, but I saw so many people in my screening be so confused as to what it all meant because they didnt have that background knowledge.
If you want to watch the film, you absolutely need to see the youtube series first
Backrooms is great, but it does not work as a standalone film.
It feels like the film's arc is anchored in the change in the audience's understanding, not the characters. So when you havent seen the series, it seems hollow, as youre not getting that sense of revelation.

Great. Time to find a new text editor. Anyone have any suggestions for good, preferably free text editors out there?
If theres something really worth it that doesnt use AI at all I am willing to try paid software, but no subscriptions.
playing directive 8020 from start to finish today starting in a moment, come join and see how many people I acidentally kill in my panic! https://t.co/42riVGD7JS
@nickbelling Sound effects - Pixabay is good but quality is pretty mixed since its mostly user content
Music - Fesliyan Studios have some great royalty free music if you dont want Kevin Macloud
Otherwise for little icons I look at UI packs on https://t.co/3wGJTujbsN. Thats everything I use.
I have been very excited for Directive 8020, so of course I am going to play it. As I do with all of supermassive's games, I am going to aim to play all of it in one sitting.
Come join me on Saturday at 1pm AEST. Lets see how many survive. https://t.co/xoyz37aVM1

I don't get the Mixtape discourse.
Games can be deep gameplay, small cinematic experience with one button, easy, hard, whatever.
Categorizing what should be interactivity is just shrinking the variety.
Play Elden Ring or Firewatch. It's cool in their own ways.
In light of recent comments about the nature of games like Mixtape, I think it's worth noting that I strongly believe the idea of "games" exists along a spectrum. And that I don't consider myself a "game designer" in general. Only in a very specific range of design, narrative, and experience.
The games I enjoy and the games I create are often filled with long sections of quiet exploration. Something I've seen dubbed as "asset tourism" for the fact that you're strolling past 3D game assets that you may never see again.
On the other hand, I consider games like Silk Song (based on what I've heard) to be beyond the difficulty range where I can derive enjoyment.
There's nothing wrong with any of these experiences. Though they provide plentiful fuel for rage bait and general debate.
I say, make the games you want to make. And play the games you want to play. And beyond that, live and let live.
As an aside, this exact same debate springs forth with our @PlushieDreadful designs. People assume (incorrectly) that our designs are meant to be everything to everyone. The truth is, those designs express a very narrow area of the spectrum along which people experience trauma and mental/physical health issues.
As the internet once proclaimed, it's OK to not like things. And you don't have to be a dick about it 😂
I think Mixtape is the first time I have actually cried because of a game. Not getting a little sad, not getting misty eyed. Tears streaking down my face, smile wide as a horizon, eyes stinging with joy.
I genuinely dont know how anything else coming out this year can top it.
