Post a picture of you coaching. Once nominated, you have 24 hours to respond or you donate $20 to a local charity. I am donating to @salvationarmy. You then nominate 4 coaches. I was nominated by @curtin_doug. I nominate @petercasares@abbyglennan@kenyonswimdive @patmcdev24
Players: Your coaches will watch you this off season. It tells them a lot about who’s committed to improving & who’s only interested when it’s convenient. No secrets, no shortcuts. You can only get better when you understand that every practice, drill, workout, etc., matters.
IF YOU REALLY WANT TO WIN YOU'LL
- take your preparation seriously
- compete relentlessly
- fight through fatigue & frustration
- get to know your teammates
- compliment & challenge your teammates
- hold your teammates accountable
- stop anything that leads to losing
#CultureWins
When I speak to college athletes I tell them 20 years from now you’re not going to wish you would have spent more time on social media or played more Fortnite or partied more. 20 years from now you’ll wish you would have devoted yourself to being the best you can be.
Players: If your coach holds you accountable, you are VERY fortunate. A lot of coaches accept their players doing whatever they want, whenever they want with no consequences. Discipline, responsibility & accountability are life prep! If your coach cares that much, respect it!
Teams with a great culture have a chance.
Teams without one, no matter how good their talent and strategy, will struggle to execute and thrive.
Becasue they can’t survive pressure, change, and adversity.
They flash, fade, then fail.
The future doesn’t belong to teams that create the best strategies.
It belongs to teams that create the best cultures.
Culture is the linchpin to attract talent and execute evolving strategies in a changing competitive environment.
Players: Coaches know you aren’t all in when you:
Act like you’re “above” others
Make excuses
Don’t listen with ears & eyes
Shut down when coached
Don’t communicate
Think rules don’t apply to you
Don’t do extra work
Pout when subbed/benched
Don’t support teammates
Play for “me”
Players: Every team has a best player. The great teams best player is also their hardest worker. The best player has an extra responsibility as a leader to show others how to prepare each day. People don’t follow talent, people follow grit & the consistent habits of excellence.
You don’t have to lead.
It’s not for everyone.
That doesn’t mean you can’t be an amazing contributor.
Teams need every role.
Leadership is just one.
Fall in love with yours.
