Liliana Hueso is a lesbian photographer who focuses on capturing photos of marginalized individuals from Mexico. Some of her works like Lenchas y marimachas gives “visibility to lesbian women who have a gender representation outside of what is considered [the] feminine norm.” 1/2

Black women in the United States are disproportionately affected by poor maternal health outcomes. They are 3-4 times more likely to experience a pregnancy or childbirth-related death compared to their white counterparts. 1/3

Access to reproductive health care improves maternal health outcomes, but many Black women have limited access to quality contraceptive care and counseling. To meaningfully improve Black maternal health outcomes, a systemic change within the healthcare system is necessary. 2/3

In fact, using the product caused numerous reports of severe infection, inflammation, burning, or even death. The fear of unwanted children or illegal abortions outweighed any of the possible dangers women faced using the Lysol douche. 4/4

Before methods of birth control such as “the pill” became legal with the 1965 ruling of Griswold v. Connecticut, women were forced to use dangerous methods of pregnancy prevention. One such method, made popular during the Great Depression, was the Lysol douche. 1/4

Many of these ads were aimed towards middle and lower class women, especially during the Great Depression, as they would not be able to afford another child. None of its claims were scientifically based and Lysol was found to be completely ineffective at killing sperm. 3/4

Since the start of 2023, the Republican party has proposed 183 anti-trans bills across 33 different states; 19 of these bills have been proposed in Texas alone. These bills primarily target trans youth via preventing healthcare and participation in sports. 1/2
