I (as in I, not PDR) had yet another argument at the weekend with someone who said rescues charge too much. Vets bills (which apparently are free for a lot of rescues (!🙄🤨), #energybills, chipping etc etc etc all add up. Adoption fees rarely cover the cost of saving a life.
