@NotKingD@Shokio_YT Turnwheel/Divine Pulse is def the better solution. I would much rather see Casual Mode go and be replaced with an infinite-use turnwheel; it doesn't fundamentally break how the game is supposed to work while easing in new players at the same time
@MisfortuneSeven This is exactly how I'd put it, yeah. If it stayed even a little profitable I imagine it would just continue to get sparse releases with little resources put into it, but it's hard to say for sure. Main point is that I don't think it was as life or death as it seems
@AirshipC I looked into this a little more, and it seems like 250k was an oft-used number from Nintendo as a baseline goal (along with a 700k number specifically for a Wii U title). There's no indication that this was a JP only target at all. https://t.co/7fzATVsM8F
@TheNCSmaster For what it's worth, it also only needed to sell 250,000 worldwide to avoid the series being canned, which IIRC only one other FE game had ever failed to do (a Japanese-only release at that).
@TheNCSmaster I'm sure Casual mode had some effect, but to say the series "very likely would've died without it" is too presumptive. Awakening had a huge marketing push beyond any other previous FE game, and popularized the romance/inheritance mechanics which became a big selling point.
@ashterissk Casual Mode really does just kill any modicum of consequence for mistakes. Mila's Turnwheel/Divine Pulse is more than enough to eliminate the barrier to entry for less experienced players in the first place, and pretty handily takes care of the risk of "losing someone to bad RNG"
It will never cease to frustrate me that so many people seem to just not realize that casual mode is a fundamentally different game, not just "less stressful cause I would reset anyways". It showsZero critical thought about what the entire medium is actually doing.

The entire "nintendo hire this man" joke was about soulless unreal engine realism without any art direction. you're missing the point of those memes and reporting your own media illiteracy if you apply it to a game that has art direction bursting from the seams in absurd excess
