It is with deep sadness that I mourn the passing of Raila Odinga. A historic figure in Kenya and Africa, he tirelessly championed democracy, justice, and self-determination. His legacy lives on, inspiring generations to fight for a fairer, freer, and more prosperous continent. #Raila_Odinga
“An upright and disciplined leadership can play a structuring role in the early stages of African democracy.
But it must gradually open up to participation, transparency, and decentralisation — otherwise, it becomes an obstacle.”
President Muhammadu Buhari was such a leader — and was seen as such.
But above all, he was a serious man with whom we could have achieved great things in the relations between São Tomé and Príncipe and Nigeria.
I was deeply saddened by the passing of President Buhari, a person with whom I had the opportunity to engage and work.
He was known for being a rigorous man, at times even tough, but he never failed to act with a sense of justice and a deep commitment to his country.
I extend my condolences to his family and to the Nigerian people.
May His soul rest in peace.
I participated on May 20th and 21st in the #GlobalGrowthConference in Rabat, organized by @InstitutAmadeus under the leadership of @brahimfassi.
In a time of profound challenges, we reaffirmed the essentials: Africa can no longer be defined by its shortcomings. We have talent, resources, and vision. We need courageous leadership, homegrown solutions, and coordinated action. The time for talk is over. It’s time to act with ethics, ambition, and a sense of the future. Africa cannot wait. Africa must lead — and has everything to do so.

Yesterday, I had the honor of participating in the conference that marked the 10th anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of Humankind, held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
I also had the honor of taking part and being appointed as an Ambassador for the HDDu.
This initiative reminds us that it is not only about protecting individual rights, but about ensuring the conditions for the continuity of humankind itself. Human dignity cannot thrive on a degraded planet, nor in societies where exclusion is normalized.
We must see human dignity not merely as a principle, but as a shared urgency.
There can only be humanity if there is a future. And there will only be a future if there is courage.

I unexpectedly ran into an old friend, @akin_adesina in an airport lounge — a pleasant and, as always, incredibly interesting encounter.
At the helm of the African Development Bank (AfDB) since 2015, Adesina has been a transformative force on the continent: he led the largest capital increase in the Bank’s history, mobilized billions during the pandemic, and boosted strategic investments in energy, agriculture, and regional integration.
While I held governance responsibilities, I had the opportunity to witness firsthand the AfDB’s commitment to São Tomé and Príncipe. Under Adesina’s leadership, the country benefited from decisive support for energy transition, agriculture, financial inclusion initiatives, and programs aimed at empowering youth and women. Instead of promises, there were concrete actions with real impact. A true African, whose leadership embraced the entire continent, without forgetting the small States.
Adesina is currently nearing the end of his second term as President of the AfDB, and we should know his successor within weeks.
His legacy will be felt well beyond the Bank’s borders, and I believe he will continue to serve our continent and his country of origin, Nigeria.
A heartfelt thank you.
As a son of Africa and a former Prime Minister, I believe that the new generation of Africans will play a decisive role in shaping the future of the world.
Our continent is young, full of ambition and talent. Migration, when managed wisely, can become a bridge for knowledge, opportunity, and prosperity — not just for Africa, but for all humanity.
It is our duty to empower our youth, to invest in their education, and to ensure that their journeys abroad are journeys of growth, dignity, and hope.
Africa is not just the future. Africa is now.

I had the honor of being welcomed by His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican — a moment of deep personal meaning.
I witnessed his serene faith, humbleness, and tireless care for the most vulnerable. A truly human leader.
Today, the world loses a figure of unshakable faith, moral courage, and boundless love for all, all, all — as he used to say.
His legacy remains — eternal. 🕊️
Conference after conference, the promises are many and the results are scarce.
We keep talking about Sudan, Ukraine, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, among many others… But the suffering continues.
We hope this is not just “another one,” because while the world talks, the innocent pay. Always.
Pain does not wait for diplomatic solutions, and justice is not born from promises.
