Dire Straits performing 'Sultans Of Swing', live on the French TV Show Chorus on the 14th October 1978.

This band you'll watch came out of nowhere in a day of the year 1978 when they released their debut album they called Dire Straits.

The album seemed unsuccessful at first glance until the song 'Sultans of Swing' became a hit in Netherlands. Then the story was re-written.

They called themselves Dire Straits as they were in a desperate situation financially.
That name now is an indelible mark of rock music. Not me, not you, not them, none of us can ignore Dire Straits anymore.

After their debut album's huge success, they started to perform at different venues. The song 'Sultans of Swing' was already a completely different tune and on the other hand, album's other songs like 'Wild West End' and 'Six Blade Knife' showed the prosperity of the band.

Now it's your time to enjoy a very early Dire Straits, what a pleasure!

“A Horse With No Name” - America

Written by Dewey Bunnell, it became their most iconic hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972. The song’s success helped define America’s sound and cemented their place in early ’70s rock.
