Ghana Police said bringing a child to a peaceful protest is dangerous. What’s more dangerous than what these kids go through?? Nonsense. #EndGalamseyNow!!
The enthusiasm and commitment with which young lawyers are approaching human rights issues simply blows my mind; and, indeed, signals some hope for our beloved country.
For the past 12 days, when the #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse protest kicked off, dozens of young lawyers, under the banner of Lawyers for Protest Defence (LPD), have really stepped up to the plate.
They have been to every single police station and detention facility in the Gt Accra Region, providing not just legal advice and representation to protesters, but also acting as search parties, using every means available to them in search of protesters who could not be found.
They’ve constituted themselves into delivery men and women, buying and distributing food, toiletries, and other supplies to detainees - with their own monies.
They are liaising between loved ones and relatives of detainees and civil society organisations and activists, on one hand and, on the other, the police authorities. They do this round the clock, showing very little or no frustration.
There’s at least one lawyer for each of the found 54 protesters currently in detention. Young lawyers, ayeeko. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

What will be a big step in this campaign would be if all pure water and bottled water producers print #EndGalamseyNow on their packaging. We will engage with this message everyday to remind us not to encourage it. #FreetheCitizens
🚨OSN ICYMI🇬🇭✊🏾⛓️💥: Unbelievable scenes here as a large number of police personnel have converged at the endpoint, forming a sea of uniforms.
It makes one ponder—what if this considerable force had been directed to the rivers burdened by silt or the forests marred by galamsey?
What if, instead of assembling here at the march’s conclusion, they were stationed at the heart of the environmental crisis, where the land is in dire need of protection and justice, just like these citizens demand?

The water body you see is the Birim River.
It's one of the most important water bodies in Ghana.
Look at what greed and wickenedness have done to God's gift to us.

No. The ban on small scale and artisanal gold mining IS how you create time to tackle it. That's an immediate first step. Forming a committee isn't a first step. We're not stupid. You dismissed a report produced by a committee under Prof. Frimpong-Boateng.
this man lost his brother, he will be saying his final goodbyes to his brother this weekend but is still pouring his energy into making sure Ghana is fought for in his own way. What’s your excuse? God bless and comfort you Chef ❤️

You had all the answers to Ghana’s problems in opposition. Had a taste of power and authority and made sure generations yet unborn have nothing to look forward to. You came, you saw and you destroyed completely. #StopGalamseyNow#FreeTheCitizens
