For generations, ordinary people have been told that buying shares represents prudence, maturity, and financial intelligence. The stock market has been sold as the pathway to stability. Work hard, invest wisely, buy into the economy, and eventually enjoy the rewards. It’s been presented almost as a civic virtue. A respectable way to secure retirement while helping businesses grow and societies prosper.

That mythology no longer matches reality.

Modern share investing has become something very different from the old romantic image of backing productive businesses that manufacture useful products, employ communities fairly, and operate with some degree of moral responsibility. Today’s stock market increasingly resembles a global casino built upon environmental destruction, debt expansion, monopolistic power, political corruption, and the relentless extraction of wealth from ordinary people — upwards — into the hands of a microscopic elite.

And yet millions continue pouring their superannuation, savings, and retirement funds into the markets without ever questioning what they’re actually financing.

There was a time when One Nation pretended to be the party of the battler. Pauline Hanson built an entire political empire around the idea that she stood for ordinary Australians abandoned by the major parties, crushed by globalism, ignored by Canberra, and mocked by the inner-city elite. But like most political marketing campaigns, the glossy packaging eventually peeled away and exposed the ugly machinery underneath. And nowhere was that more obvious than in the election of Farrar’s newest political salesman, David Farley.

The corporate media painted Farley’s victory as some kind of grassroots uprising. The Murdoch Crime Family practically treated it like the Second Coming for regional Australia. Headlines screamed about a “bush revolt”, “farmer anger”, and “anti-establishment momentum”, while conveniently ignoring the most glaring reality of all. David Farley was not some struggling wheat farmer from Hay trying to keep the family property alive through drought. He was a corporate heavyweight. And yet somehow, through one of the greatest political marketing cons in recent memory, One Nation convinced thousands of struggling rural Australians to hand political power to a man whose career had been built inside the very corporate structures that have hollowed out the bush for decades.
