@curtis_yarvin Good Lord, we're facing extinction-level economic change, the value of human labor is rapidly going to go to zero, and we're using nineteenth century ideas and vocabulary. I think UBI will cause rampant decline and degradation. But what's the alternative? Universal Mortal Combat?
@EPoe187 No shit, bro. Everything is a trade-off. Just because character and temperament matters doesn't mean nothing else matters. Do you wish Kamala Harris were president? Joe Biden? "The decline of America was relentless, but polite and orderly..."
@policytensor@pati_marins64 I always thought it was *extremely* likely she was being paid by some adversary -- Russia, I would have guessed. I just always tried to account for very obvious biases. To me, there's little difference between the names 'Patricia Marins' and 'Paid FSD Operative'.
@LeronAssist Who are you? I won't consider trying it unless I know something about who you are are, where your company is based, who's behind it, what technology you use or are based on. But the videos look marvelous.
@JohnCleese I frankly think this sort of language "The various Christian churches have often let Christ down"... this sort of thing is a real problem. Move the focus back, always move the criticism and mockery back, onto ourselves, away from where it's clearly most deserved.
@poxesfoxes Patriotic Americans love Italy, love Europe. Give it time. I think the current hostilities are effectively a form of shock treatment. How do you get the frog to jump out of a pot of boiling water? Perhaps by suddenly turning the heat way up.
@darraghor@Apparatchik_1 "I like this place, it would be great to live here" => "Whatever tax rules are in place RIGHT NOW must be why this place is so awesome" => "I MUST accept whatever taxation system this place imposes, regardless of cost to me!" ... o b v i o u s l y... !
@Patonapat @Jajajajaja8844@Apparatchik_1 And of course, his answer is a non-answer. Obviously, you can avoid taxes by not being tax-resident (but watch out, definitions vary!). And the whole trust idea, governments routinely crack down on such schemes and laws are vague, interpretations change. Ain't taking that risk!
@Apparatchik_1@Eurodoom How I'd love to spend a few years living in the Netherlands. But, never gonna happen. I'm way way way too undesirable, apparently. Good luck, y'all!
@Jajajajaja8844@Apparatchik_1 OK I'll bite. Hypothetical: $5M to be inherited by a child. Tax resident of France. How to avoid the inheritance tax? It'd be 0 in the United States.
@Eurodoom@Apparatchik_1 Yes, it's straightforward to *move* there. But it'd also effectively make me liable for millions in extra taxes (inheritance, cap gains). I imagine she doesn't have to worry much about such taxes. See how this works? There are huge incentives *against* me retiring there.
@Jajajajaja8844@Apparatchik_1 Inheritance tax. Cap gains tax -- worldwide assets. Exit tax after 6 years of tax residency. All *vastly* higher than comparable US rates.
@BussySmeller2@hecubian_devil This is basically my understanding as well. Paris looks the way it does because of Emperor Napoleon. Effectively, the last iteration of near-absolute monarchy. So few seem to understand this!
@itsrapha83 Hi Raphael, I think you mentioned exams in one of your posts? Are you a student, if you don't mind me asking? I have wondered how you manage to travel to so many amazing locations!
@itsrapha83 Have you considered YouTube? I suspect there would be a bigger audience. I would watch. Seems like the algorithm and community is geared more toward news, politics, commentary here. Just different purposes. Van Gogh might be lost in the din here.
