🇱🇧 France and Italy are preparing to send an international coalition force into southern Lebanon to replace the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission.

The force would deploy with U.S. backing and at Lebanon's request, aimed at supporting the Lebanese army and preventing a security vacuum in the south.

France, UNIFIL's original architect and biggest troop contributor, is leading the push alongside Italy.

President Aoun and Lebanese authorities have welcomed the initiative.

Separately, leaks describe a U.S. plan to help monitor the Lebanon-Israel framework agreement, though analysts are split on whether that means American boots on the ground or just an oversight role.
