Katy Perry sold the rights to a significant portion of her music catalog for a reported $225 million.

In September 2023, she sold her stake in the master recording royalties and publishing rights for her five studio albums released between 2008 and 2020 (One of the Boys, Teenage Dream, Prism, Witness, and Smile) to Litmus Music, a company backed by The Carlyle Group.

This deal included many of her biggest hits, including “Firework.” After the sale, control over licensing those tracks largely transferred to the new rights holder. As a result, she no longer has a say in how or where those songs are used.
