India should never build its strategy on the assumption that any major power is a permanent friend. Nations pursue interests, not emotions.

If Washington's priorities are becoming more transactional, India's response should be the same: deepen strategic autonomy, diversify defence and technology partnerships, expand manufacturing, strengthen indigenous capabilities, and engage every major power from a position of confidence.
