It’s hard to believe, but yesterday was my last full day to serve as the pastor of a congregation. It’s a bittersweet moment. For the past 42 consecutive years, I have served in this capacity in various churches in multiple states. Furthermore, I’ve been pastor of THIS church for 30 years.
The other day, my wife said, “This is the end of an era.” That may not be the way anyone else feels, but it is certainly true for us.
After receiving my Th.B. in 1982, I immediately went into full-time Christian work. For the next two years, I had the distinct privilege of working for the late Elder Wayne McClain at Apostolic Temple in Pasadena (South Houston), Texas. Those years were far more impacting than I am able to express. Elder McClain was one of the most spiritually minded men I’ve ever known. While I’m thankful for knowledge I received from college, the things I learned during the two years I worked with him literally turned my life around.
At the end of those two years, I was elected as Pastor of Tatum Pentecostal Church in Tatum, Texas (about 20 miles south of Longview). Although I was only 24 years old at the time, God was gracious to me — and to the church. We saw the congregation more than double in size in about 24 months.
I honestly thought I would never leave Tatum, but God had other plans. Just shy of my second year pastoral anniversary, the Lord lifted my burden and began letting me know He had another vineyard in which I should labor.
My next pastorate was Apostolic Temple (now Landmark Apostolic Pentecostal Church) in Aransas Pass, Texas (about 20 miles east of Corpus Christi). We went through a lot of struggles, but also saw some tremendous victories. We poured ourselves into that church for nearly five years. I will never forget the night I walked into service and saw the building full. At the end of the service, our altars were full of sinners seeking God. I was elated! On the drive home, however, the Lord spoke to me. I had accomplished what He sent me there to do and it was, once again, time to move on.
From there, I moved to Cañon City, Colorado to assume the pastorate of a church that was wounded and struggling. There were eight voting members, only six of whom actively attended church. I worked diligently for four years, watching God bring healing and restoration, and adding many new souls to the church. We were there for almost four years when the Lord directed me to Mississippi.
Jayess, Mississippi was, quite frankly, a tough time for my family and me. In spite of many things we had to experience (and endure), we saw more than 30 people receive the Holy Ghost. The day came, though, that it was clear it was necessary to make a change.
When I resigned on Sunday night, April 14, 1996, I walked into my office wondering where we would go next. Within minutes, I received a phone call stating that New Life Pentecostal Church (now @TruthChurchKC ) in Olathe, Kansas had just elected me to be their next pastor.
That was exactly 30 years ago today. Tonight, I will officially install Brother @jaredhilton as the new pastor of this assembly. Thus, I will bring three decades of service here to an end. His installation message will be the last time I will ever preach to this church as their pastor.
That means this weekend marked the last Sunday I will ever experience while pastor of a congregation. After tonight, the next time I walk through the doors of of our church building, I will not do so as their pastor. In Sunday night’s service, however, God filled a young lady with the Holy Ghost and I baptized another young girl in Jesus’ name! What a wonderful way to close out my position as pastor! As I said in the beginning, it’s a bittersweet moment. (MORE BELOW)

I have much to report, but little time to do so. (We will be catching a flight shortly to Johannesburg). Suffice it say, the meeting was definitely a success!
We baptized 30 pastors and/or wives in Jesus’ name! God granted revelation of the Oneness to many! The response was so positive overall that we are seriously considering coming back in September.
One beautiful part of this story involves a man named Pastor Herbert. He attended one of my conferences in Zimbabwe nearly a decade ago. He did not accept the message at that time. However, he went home and began to study. Over time, he finally saw the truth.
He had gotten (and saved) my number at my conference in Zimbabwe. After converting, he reached out to me. He informed me he is now living and pastoring in Cape Town. He wanted to know if I could put him in touch with someone in his city who believed this message. I directed him to our missionary in Johannesburg.
Brother Stewart was already wanting to have a conference in Cape Town, but didn’t have a contact there. Thus, Pastor Herbert became the organizer of the Cape Town Conference. As a result of a seed sown nearly ten years ago, a new revival has sprung forth in another city — in another country! “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9).
Thank you all for the prayers! Also, some of you send monthly support for this work, and I want you to know it is GREATLY appreciated! What God is doing through us is only possible because of the generosity of good men!

We had around 125 in attendance today. The spirit was excellent! In all the years I’ve been doing this, I’ve never had a more responsive crowd! What happened this afternoon was amazing! Perhaps I will feel more like giving an extensive report later, but for now, I’m exhausted! Let me just say that before I finished teaching on baptism, much of the crowd was literally yelling, “Let’s do it now! Baptize me now!” I plan to tell you more about it later. Please keep praying!
