Oregon US House Rep @RepDexterOR sent this email to her constituents today. In this email, she absurdly states that Trump’s sanctions have caused regular blackouts, lack of medical supplies, and lack of access to food in Cuba.

In reality, all of these conditions have been occurring for decades in Cuba, and while some of it can be attributed to US sanctions, that indicates only a small part of the forces bringing about Cuba’s ruin. US embargos have occurred since 1960. The Biden Administration had heavy sanctions on Cuba - as a matter of fact - Biden continued the sanctions from Trump’s first term, something Dexter didn’t have a problem with at the time.

In truth, Cuba’s blackouts mostly occur due to its ancient and inefficient grid system, equipment failures, as well low investment. Also, Venezuela used to financially support Cuba, especially with oil, and for obvious reasons, that’s no longer happening.

Food shortages occur due to low agricultural output, limited foreign investment for imports, as well as fuel shortages. The same can be said for medications and medical equipment.

Sanctions are one minor aspect of shortages, but major contributing factors are the inefficiencies of the corrupt centralized government and its economic policies, aging infrastructure, low productivity, and lack of foreign currency.

In other words, either Dexter is falling for communist propaganda from the regime on her trip, or she is using the standard Democrat “Trump bad” argument to blame every one of society’s ills on the president.

Next week, we will begin interviewing individuals who survived socialist regimes. One person we are interviewing said this about Dexter’s email:

I left Cuba in 1967, and (shortages and blackouts were) happening then. My family left in the late- 70s and (the shortages were) happening then.
My father’s second wife still has family in Cuba. She visits on a regular basis, and it’s still happening now. She constantly travels there with medical supplies because they have little to nothing.

The country has been in ruins since Castro‘s regime took over. It is worse now because of the Venezuelan situation.”

In Georgia you said that requiring voter ID would suppress the black vote.
It actually improved the black turnout along with all other races.
I believe that voter turnout improves with voting integrity, so why not require voters to show an ID?
