RBC and BMO have shown their true colours. What happened to Eva Chipiuk is a warning to all Canadians.
Eva is a lawyer who represented Freedom Corp at the Public Order Emergency Commission—the group defending the Charter rights of the Freedom Convoy organizers. She famously asked Prime Minister Trudeau:
“When did you become afraid of Canadians?”
Now, the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has shut down her accounts.
Their excuse? Her “recent activity” was outside their “risk appetite.”
What was the activity?
A Bitcoin transaction. One she confirmed as legitimate. The account was temporarily frozen, cleared, and then—she was given 30 days to find a new bank.
No explanation. No due process. No appeals process.
Let’s not kid ourselves: this isn’t about crypto.
It’s about retaliation against a dissident voice.
Banking is not a luxury.
It’s not a “perk” you can lose for bad behavior.
It is a basic necessity of modern life. Without a bank account, you can’t:
• Rent an apartment
• Get paid
• Pay your bills
• File taxes or access government services
Being shut out of the banking system is not a minor inconvenience. It’s economic erasure—a form of soft banishment from society. And yet, RBC—one of five federally chartered banks operating under a government-sanctioned oligopoly—can unilaterally cut someone off, citing vague internal risk concerns, with no explanation and no oversight.
This is not just a customer service issue. It is a civil rights issue.
Who calls the shots in this country?
On February 13, 2022, the night before the Emergencies Act was invoked, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland held a private call with top bank CEOs.
According to her own handwritten notes—entered as evidence at the Emergencies Act inquiry—RBC CEO Dave McKay and BMO CEO Darryl White pressured the government to:
• Designate protesters as terrorists
• Seize their assets
• And “impair them”
Freeland copied those phrases directly into her notes, and added:
“We need a new playbook. We need to designate this group as a terrorist group and seize the assets and imprison them.”
The Emergencies Act was invoked the next day.
And the Federal Court later ruled that decision illegal.
Now in 2025, RBC is still carrying out that playbook—quietly de-banking one of the lawyers who challenged the narrative.
This is what the merging of corporate and state power looks like.
Let’s be clear: we're not using fascism as a buzzword.
By classical definition, fascism involves the fusion of state and corporate power to suppress opposition.
That’s precisely what’s happening here.
What can you do?
If you're still banking with RBC or BMO, ask yourself:
Are these institutions aligned with your values?
There are better options:
• Scotiabank is the only major bank that has since apologized for freezing accounts
• Many credit unions refused to comply with the freezing orders at all
In a truly free society, access to banking should not be conditional on ideological compliance.
The right to exist economically should never depend on whether the government or a corporation approves of your views.
If it can happen to Eva Chipiuk,
it can happen to any of us.
@bradsmith Neither, gave it up 20+ years ago. Not religious, tired of the commercialization of it. Kindness, compassion and goodwill towards others should be EVERYDAY!
@elenoresturko First, this article headline in from a MSM so highly questionable regarding facts. Second, I have known a few people who have utilized MAID and they did not get approved that fast. There is a process so again FACTS!!
@LeightonVon Isn't that what the justice system is all about? There is a plaintiff and a defendant? How is this a politician's fault? Especially a politician who was not in power at the time of the act. One would think a lawyer should know all this.
The 30 year amortization has, in fact, been done before; as well as 35 and 40 years. This link takes you to a history of Mortgage rules and changes over the years.

@andersm0@MaximeBernier To my knowledge an appeal can only be heard based on two things - point of law and/or evidence that was not available at the time of trial. But that may only be for civil cases, not sure about criminal ones.
7/ The Crown says there was a single incident where a protester wore the same hoodie as Lich. (*As above, defence counsel seems unimpressed with this argument.) The judge says “maybe there was a sale.”
Decent adults don't encourage kids to keep secrets from parents.
They encourage honesty & transparency.
A teacher or individual who believes parents should be excluded from the convo & wants to build a relationship in confidence with a student, is dangerous to said child.
Especially when the relationship is centered around sexual ideology and themes.
