SA Rugby, just pure greed and betrayal of their loyal fans! SARU inflated the ticket prices for the Ellis Park test between the Boks and England hoping that the English supporters would come in their droves with their strong pounds. (current exchange rate: R21 to the pound). But they didn’t factor in that around 20 thousand of those same English fans would probably be at the FIFA World Cup. Then to save the embarrassment of a half empty stadium, SARU lowers the ticket prices a few days before the game. So, some SA fans may have already paid more than R2000 for a ticket that is now on sale for R650! A SARU spokesperson blamed the slow sales on the war in Iran - that’s really good spin! Hopefully, Cricket SA has learned something from this after only making 13% of the Newlands test tickets available to the SA public!
