MAYORAL HOUSE WORTH R4 MILLION LEFT TO ROT IN MOSES KOTANE.

A state-owned mayoral house in the Moses Kotane Local Municipality has been left unused for more than ten years and its condition has become a shocking waste of public money.

Even though no one lives there, the municipality is still paying for security, electricity and some maintenance, using resources that are already limited.

The house was originally bought between 2002 and 2004 for around R4 million. But during a recent oversight visit, provincial whip Sylvia Sithole revealed that its value has now dropped to about R1.35 million.

The huge loss is linked to serious damage to the property, including big roof problems, plumbing failures and other structural defects. Fixing the house would cost more than R2 million the same amount the municipality uses for its entire yearly infrastructure maintenance budget.

Residents and officials say the situation shows how poor planning and neglect continue to affect service delivery in the North West.
