The Media Council of Somalia has held talks with the Press Council of South Africa in Johannesburg, and the two bodies have agreed to cooperate formally on media development and on the handling of complaints.

The meeting at the South African council's offices covered best practice in dealing with complaints and disputes both within the media and against it, and wider questions of professional standards and accountability. Dr Phathiswa Magopeni, Executive Director of the Press Council of South Africa, congratulated the Media Council of Somalia on its admission to the Network of Independent Media Councils in Africa earlier in the week, and said her council stood ready for full cooperation.
