I call these types of prayers, "negative comparison prayers" because they express gratitude by contrasting one's situation with the suffering or death of others.

It promotes a transactional view of God. It may reinforce the idea that if you're alive, God loves you more, or if someone died, they somehow received less favor. Christianity does not teach this.

It can lack compassion. Imagine a family that lost a loved one reading that message. While they also thanked God throughout July, they are now grieving.

It makes another person's tragedy the basis of your gratitude. Gratitude is healthiest when it is focused on God's goodness, not on someone else's misfortune.

It unintentionally implies God favored some people over others. Saying, "Thank God you're alive because others are in the mortuary," can suggest that God deliberately chose to preserve one person while abandoning another.
