May we be those that seek to honour Him to the depth of our being, in word and deed - in thought and in motive.

May we obtain the grace to never be like those whom Jesus described in Mark 7:6 “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me”

I read the book of Hosea 6:6 recently and this verse struck me. “I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings”

And I pondered on this question “ Why did God desire love and knowledge of Him instead of burnt offerings?”

Back then in the Old Testament, the law, including sacrifices and burnt offerings was to serve as an expression of love to God. Unfortunately they’re hearts were hardened despite all these.

He longs for people who are genuine, faithful, merciful, and who desire to carry out His will in their lives. He longs that we come to a deeper knowledge of Himself.

He is not interested in empty words, shallow worship, frigid feelings or superficial service.
God cares more about our heart’s love for Him than the things that we do in His name.

But they’re missing one vital thing . “Relationship with God” .

The fact that you partake in all these activities doesn’t mean you have a relationship with God. As a matter of fact, you cannot substitute religious activities for a relationship with God.

This made me reflect on our generation today . Many Christians nowadays participate in religious activities (attend church weekdays and weekends, attend Christian programs, you do intense prayer and worship) and they feel thats all there is for their walk with God .

I dug further and saw two interesting scriptures that explains how sacrifices to God are incomplete and even offensive without a changed heart that loves and knows the Lord. 1Samuel 15:22, Amos 5:21-24 .
