In 1991, Wanda Holloway, a mother with a strong aspiration for her daughter, Shanna, to excel as a cheerleader, resorted to extreme measures after Shanna narrowly missed making the junior high school cheerleading squad for two consecutive years.

Holloway intended to enlist a hitman to eliminate Verna Heath, the mother of the 14-year-old girl who had secured a spot on the cheerleading squad over Shanna.

Holloway believed that Heath's death would emotionally destabilize her daughter, leading her to quit the team and pave the way for Shanna to take her place.

Holloway recruited her former brother-in-law, Terry Harper, to carry out the murder.

However, the scheme fell apart when Harper notified the authorities that Holloway had approached him to arrange a hitman.

Consequently, Holloway was apprehended by the police the following day.

Holloway entered a "no contest" plea and received a ten-year prison sentence, along with a $10,000 fine.

Yet, Holloway was released on March 1, 1997, having served only six months of her sentence.

The judge mandated that she complete the remaining 9.5 years on probation, in addition to fulfilling 1,000 hours of community service.
