@straight8 is our favourite film competition and they’ve opened their 2018 event. It’s #amazing what filmmakers create in-camera non-sync on a #super8 cartridge. Selected films go unseen by filmmakers until they’re premiered for audiences at straight 8’s various #global events!

@bladerunner gets our vote for best use of #film as #artisticmedium. As a #sequel, it improves on what was amazing about the original, #nosmallfeat. The clear standout is the film’s #cinematography, so if Roger Deakins doesn’t get nominated for an #Oscar, we’ll eat our hats!

Happy #BoxingDay! Another one of our fave movies from 2017 was @WindRiverMovie, a heart-rending and timely story about the modern North American #indigenous experience. @GilBirmingham stole every scene he was in. Powerful and thought-provoking #storytelling at its best.

Most #POWs at Camp 132 were captured in late 1942 in north Africa and sent via ocean liner from Egypt through the Suez Canal around Africa to New York City. There they boarded #CanadianPacific trains bound for Canada along this very train line, found just east of #MedicineHat.

Knowledge is power. Thankfully others have been documenting the Canadian #WW2 #POW camps and events that took place there for decades. Special thanks to Dr. David J. Carter, whose “POW: Behind Canadian Barbed Wire” was an incredible resource for our research on @lasthangman.

At Camp 132, two German #POWs were killed by their fellow #soldiers. 7 men stood trial for the 2 murders, of which 5 were #hanged for their #crimes. The #trials took place here, at the Court of Queen’s Bench in #medicinehat
