Solomon Ibn Gabirol (c. 1021–1058) was a Jewish poet and philosopher from medieval Spain who became known throughout Latin Europe as Avicebron. Orphaned at a young age and frequently troubled by poor health and strained relationships within his community, he nevertheless emerged as an important intellectual voice of his era.

His best-known philosophical work, Fons Vitae (The Fountain of Life), presented a distinctive Neoplatonic view centered on matter, form, and divine will. Alongside his philosophy, Ibn Gabirol produced an extensive collection of Hebrew poetry, including his celebrated religious poem Keter Malkhut (The Kingly Crown).

For centuries, European scholars knew the philosopher Avicebron without realizing he was the same person as the Jewish poet Ibn Gabirol. His philosophical ideas influenced several medieval Christian thinkers, long before scholars established his true identity in the 19th century.
