Bees swarm for two major reasons:

1. There's danger and their hive becomes inhabitable.

2. The hive is overcrowded. In this case, the queen of the hive produces pheromones that makes the worker bees realize the need for a new queen. The workers start feeding royal jelly to some selected larvae. Once a new queen bee is close to emerging, the old queen leaves the hive with some of the worker bees. They then start the swarming.

Why are they on this bus? When bees are swarming, they can get tired because and rest wherever they feel. It could be on a lamp post. It could even be on a tree, in front of your house or down on the grass.

While they're resting, the some of the worker bees go out to scout for a potential hive location. The bees will remain in this resting place, conserving their energy until the scouts find a place. It may take up to two hours or three days. However, some people have the knowledge of making them leave earlier. Bee keepers can get them to come into a man-made hive by putting lemon grass oil in the hive. Lemon grass smell like their queen pheromones.
