🌿 UNDP GEF-SGP Project Launch in Ikot Ukpong Iman, Akwa Ibom State 🌿

On July 30, 2025, the community of Ikot Ukpong Iman took a bold step towards environmental sustainability with the official launch of the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) project titled:
“Application of Nature-Based Solutions for Sustainable Forest Restoration and Livelihoods’ Resilience.”

Hosted by the Prime Initiative for Green Development (PIGD), the event brought together traditional leaders, government dignitaries, development partners, and passionate community members.
From inspiring addresses by the Obong of Ikot Ukpong Iman and UNDP-GEF SGP Rep Ruth Akagu, to expert insights from renowned climatologists and agricultural specialists, the day was packed with momentum and purpose.

📍 Highlights included:

📻Radio and awareness campaigns in the lead-up
🧑🏽��🤝‍🧑🏿Youth and women actively pledging support
🗺️A 9-month project roadmap unveiled by Dr. Akpan Archibong

We visited the host communities of our UNDP GEF-SGP supported forest restoration project Ikot Ukpong Iman and Ikot Umiangede for an official familiarization and partnership visit.

We engaged with key stakeholders elders, youth leaders, and women’s groups to share our vision and emphasize one core message:
This project is their project.

We’re not just working in these communities we’re working with them.
This visit marks the beginning of a collaborative journey built on trust, shared responsibility, and community-driven restoration.

Real impact happens when local voices lead.
