This idea that entrepreneurs have nothing to learn from people in corporate, or from those who haven’t run businesses themselves, is a bit flawed.
The goal isn’t to only learn from people who have walked your exact path, but to learn from anyone who can help you move forward. There are lessons, skills, systems, and perspectives from corporate and other career paths that can help startups build differently and better.
I don’t how to behave, what do you do when the team you love and have seen suffer and endure the worst of times finally proves everyone wrong!? 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Today, we open our new home at @_themallofafrica
As I stood in the space, I kept thinking about this one single idea that I hold true, that I would die for:
That African creativity deserves to exist at the highest level.

It’s Friday at Drink & Print
We’re open, smiling, and ready to serve our community with clean, affordable water and reliable printing services.
In a place where access to clean water is a challenge, we show up every day to make a difference, one litre at a time.
I love seeing how Zulzi keeps evolving, how Delivery Ka Speed keeps growing, and how Beatty on Tapp keeps scaling. Great South African businesses that continue to show us what’s possible. Keep building.
Speak to your mentors. Honestly and often. Sometimes what we need most are people with a depth of experience we haven’t reached yet. Learning from other people’s journeys can help you make fewer mistakes.
Eish one day you will have the crappiest day as an entrepreneur, the next you will feel like you will take over the world 🎢 Then you’ll open X and @Mashstartup will just shaya with a tweet and you are convinced, the world is yours, and for you only. ♥️
It takes an almost impossible level of audacity and resilience to build anything in South Africa, whether it’s a startup, a small business, or a social enterprise. Don’t stop. This country needs what you’re building.

If I ask anybody why they think Arsenal won’t win the league, their only answer is “history”…but every entity that is in the kitchen long enough will cook eventually. At some point they’re gonna get tired of second place, and this has to be the season.
The most important thing I worked on this year was documenting the journeys of some of South Africa’s great builders. I’m truly grateful to every guest and partner who made this work possible. Most importantly, thank you to everyone who listened, learned, and shared the work 🙏🏿❤️
Thank you for listening, sharing, and putting a friend onto an episode that helped them move their business forward. Every minute you’ve spent with this podcast has mattered and I don’t take a single one for granted.
To every guest, partner, and friend who’s carried this mission with me, thank you. The growth we’ve seen this year is only the foundation.
We’re building a home for South Africa’s opportunity creators, solution builders and entrepreneurs and this is just the beginning.
