Rwanda keeps raising the standards that most African countries are neglecting.
Ruhehe Primary School sits along a gently curving wall of local volcanic stone, paying homage to Rwandan craftsmanship. Volcanic rock on the walls. Clay roofing tiles that muffle rainfall so lessons continue through storms. Woven bamboo and bark panels filtering light and absorbing sound. 80 percent of construction materials sourced within 50 kilometres of the site. 75 percent of the budget spent inside Ruhehe Village and Musanze district. 110 local workers hired. 35 percent of them women.
Now look at what we build and call a school across most of this continent. A cement block box. Plastered over. Painted yellow on top and ox-blood red at the bottom. No ventilation strategy. No acoustic consideration. No connection to the landscape or the culture. A building that could exist anywhere and therefore belongs nowhere.
The material knowledge is here. The stone is here. The clay is here. Rwanda proved that building well does not cost more and it costs differently, and it pays back in ways a painted cement box never will.
This is not a foreign standard. This is an African one.

Understanding How Tax Works for Influencers & Freelancers in Kenya.
Let’s break this down using a hypothetical scenario.
You land a gig worth Ksh. 100,000.
The company pays you 95,000 and withholds 5,000 as tax.
Many people think that 5,000 is the final tax. It is NOT.
That 5,000 is a Withholding Tax ; which simply means tax paid in advance on your behalf.
What this means in practice:
• The tax authority already knows you earned 100,000 • The company remits the 5,000 withholding tax • Upon remitting the 5,000 , a withholding certificate is issued . • That certificate links the income to your PIN
When filing your taxes, the system already expects you to declare the 100,000 income.
With the current validation rules, you cannot declare less than what has been reported.
Here’s the important part most people miss 👇
-You are not taxed on the 100,000 unless you have zero expense
-You are taxed on NET PROFIT.
Net Profit = Income – Expenses
Example:
Income from gig: 100,000
Possible expenses: • Capital allowance on Equipment (camera, lighting, microphone)- most people have zero clue on this 😎 • Internet costs • Transport for the shoot • Editing software subscriptions • Studio hire • Assistant payments
Assume total valid expenses = 40,000
Your taxable profit will be 60,000, not 100,000.
The 5,000 withholding tax you already paid is then credited against your final tax liability.
Important to note going forward (especially from this year 2026)
-Expenses must be properly supported, ideally through eTIMS compliant receipts/invoices.
-If your influencer or freelance business is: • unstructured • cash-based • poorly documented,
Reconstructing expenses at the end of the year will not work
This is one of the main reasons why influencers & freelancers must treat their brand like a real business.
-Track your income -Record your expenses -Keep invoices and receipts -Use proper documentation
Otherwise, you risk paying tax on income that was actually spent running your business.
The earlier you structure your business model for Tax planning , the better

We don’t need imported glass towers. We need buildings that respect the sun, the wind, and the place they stand in. Our climate already tells us how to build, we just need to start listening

THE LOGIC OF INCREMENTAL BUILDING.
You can build one wing of this house every year.
In fact, you can build this house as the family grows.
Stage 1: When you are just alone or with your partner, you can build the mid section.
It has a lounge, dining area, kitchen and pantry.
You can build this to test the waters.
Stage 2. If you happen to get a child, you can build for them one wing (left or right). Each side is a complete 2 bedroom with bath and wardrobes
Stage 3. You can continue on this path up to a maximum of four bedrooms.
The gap created between the wings of the house can be used as parking, extra dining space or extra lounge space.
This can also make a good restaurant at a shopping center.
We design houses that work for people.
As a machine for living, a house should solve real problems and mimic the Pattern of Life.

A comparison of NSE trading costs shows Ziidi Trader cheaper than AIB Axys across KSh 100, KSh 1,000, and KSh 100,000 equity buy trades.
The fee gap holds at about 0.34 percentage points, driven by lower brokerage, while statutory levies converge as trade size rises.
AIB Axys is used only as a reference, with most brokers pricing in a similar range.
