"Our football space must become a thriving ecosystem. The NPFL has to be on television, it must be properly commercialised, and we must create wealth, not just for the players, but for everyone within our football ecosystem.
The days of paying our players peanuts must come to an end. Even the journalists who dedicate themselves to covering our league deserve to earn a decent living from it."
Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, on the vision for football reforms in Nigeria.

Team Nigeria officially kicked off training yesterday in Aberdeen, Scotland, as preparations gather momentum ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
This video takes you inside Team Nigeria's camp, where athletes continue to express confidence that they are ready to make the nation proud with a successful outing in Glasgow. 🇳🇬

Nothing gives me greater joy than seeing our athletes genuinely satisfied with the world-class training environment we've secured for them here in Aberdeen. Their confidence, comfort, and preparedness remain at the heart of everything we do at the National Sports Commission.
We are committed to not only maintaining these standards but raising them even higher because our athletes deserve the very best. When you invest in their welfare, wellbeing, and high-performance preparation, you create the right conditions for podium success.
I can't stop thanking the father of the nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for making this high performance we are adopting, a reality for our athletes. The backing and support has been totally amazing from Mr President.
I have no doubt that Team Nigeria is eager to repay Mr. President's faith with outstanding performances and, by God's grace, many gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. 🇳🇬🥇
I arrived at our pre-Commonwealth Games training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, to personally receive our athletes, coaches and officials as Team Nigeria begins the final phase of preparations for Glasgow 2026.
Seeing our contingent arrive with so much determination and confidence reminds me why preparation remains the foundation of success. From inspecting the facilities to welcoming our athletes, I am satisfied that we have created the right environment for them to train, recover and compete at their very best.
I was delighted to receive some of our early arrivals, including Folashade Oluwafemiayo, Favour Ashe and Patience George-Okon, alongside many other dedicated athletes and officials. As of Friday night, 54 members of Team Nigeria had arrived safely, with more expected over the weekend.
Our focus remains simple: eliminate every avoidable distraction, provide world-class support, and allow our athletes and coaches to concentrate solely on winning for Nigeria.
The atmosphere in Aberdeen is excellent, the facilities are first-class, and the team is in high spirits. Over the next three weeks, every training session, every recovery period and every detail will count as we prepare to proudly represent our nation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Nigeria believes in you. I believe in you. Now, let's make history together.

Another significant milestone in our drive to reposition Nigerian sports as we continue to deliver on the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria Sports Economy (RHINSE).
I was delighted to receive the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Glauk Konjufca, at the National Sports Commission, where we sealed the foundation for a bilateral sporting collaboration between our two countries🇽🇰🇳🇬.
Kosovo's decision to identify Nigeria as its preferred partner in Africa 🌍 is a strong vote of confidence in our nation's immense sporting potential, human capital and growing influence in global sports diplomacy.
Our discussions were productive and forward-looking, with a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in football, judo and other sports. I am particularly excited by the proposal for an international friendly match between the Super Eagles and the Kosovo National Team, as well as the opportunities for capacity building in judo, where Kosovo has established itself as a global powerhouse, producing world and Olympic champions.
As I told the Deputy Prime Minister, "I can tell you for free that we are super delighted for this honour by Kosovo and we are ready for every form of sporting collaboration that will mutually benefit both countries."
This partnership goes beyond competition. It is about creating opportunities for athlete development, knowledge exchange, technical cooperation, investment and international sporting diplomacy.
I also reaffirmed that, through the clear mandate of our dear President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the National Sports Commission is building an ecosystem that is economically friendly for sports, and this collaboration with Kosovo will further strengthen that vision.
I commend the Government of Kosovo for this bold initiative and appreciate the engagements already held with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, which have helped lay the groundwork for this historic relationship.
This is how we grow Nigerian sports, by building strategic international partnerships, creating new opportunities for our athletes and coaches, and opening more doors for sports to contribute meaningfully to our national economy.
The future of Nigerian sports is global, and we are intentionally positioning our nation to lead.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, Hon. Tunde Delu will facilitate a three-day Rugby Coaching and Medical Course in Abeokuta as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots development in the sport.
The programme, organised in partnership with the Ogun State Rugby Association, will hold from April 23 to 25, 2026, at the MITROS Residences and MKO Abiola Sports Arena
Designed to build technical capacity within the game, the training will equip coaches and medical personnel with essential knowledge in player safety, coaching techniques, and athlete management.
According to Hon. Delu, the course will also serve as a preparatory pathway toward Level 1 and Level 2 coaching and medical certifications while supporting the development of educators ahead of anticipated programmes by World Rugby later in the year
Participants are expected to have completed introductory modules such as Rugby Ready, Safeguarding, as well as basic coaching and medical courses before attending the training.
Meanwhile, the third edition of the Abeokuta Rugby 7s tournament, also organised by Tunde Delu and initially scheduled for April 25-26, has been postponed to June.
The tournament has steadily grown in profile since its inception, with Cowrie RFC winning the maiden edition after edging Racing RFC 26-21 in a thrilling final. Organisers say the new June date will allow for better preparation and wider participation from clubs across the country
@TundeDelu
I am proud to celebrate 10-year-old Junior Quadri for his outstanding performance at the World Table Tennis Youth Tournament in Luxembourg, where he won silver in the U-11 category and bronze in the U-13 category.
This achievement reflects not just his talent, but the strong foundation laid by his father, Aruna Quadri @aruna6066, and his mother, Qaniat, whose dedication as a coach is clearly yielding results.
The National Sports Commission remains proud of this family and fully committed to supporting the development of young talents like Junior Quadri.
The future of Nigerian sports is bright. 🇳🇬
We are aligned with the broader national vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT, a leadership philosophy that is deliberate about youth inclusion, capacity development, and generational renewal.
2027 presents a rare opportunity for young people in Ogun State to connect to what I consider one of the most impactful political ideologies in Nigeria’s history, a system that does not just talk about youth but prepares them for leadership, sustains engagement, and delivers results. For the first time, Ogun has the opportunity to plug into that school of governance truly, and in YAYI @AdeolaYAYI, I believe that bridge exists.
Yesterday, I had the honour of representing my mentor and leader, Bukola Olopade @BukolaOlopadee , at a special inter-religious prayer and declaration of support for the gubernatorial ambition of Olamilekan Adeola in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
It was one of the easiest messages I’ve ever delivered, because it was rooted in clarity and conviction.
