Perhaps the most sensational Dunhuang manuscript copies of the Diamond Sutra are those handcopied by an old man. In 906, the 83-year-old man made 7 copies, two of which are shown here. He claimed that he pricked himself to draw blood, which he mixed with ink in copying the sutra.

The holes in the front & back boards are the remains of chain plates, which would have attached the volume to the bookcases in a library.
