Wait... WHAT?! How did I not know this?
Mark Billingham, crime writer, was Gary in the greatest children's television programme of my generation, if not ever!
I've met Mark. He signed my Harrogate crime festival programme. I wish I'd known this then so I could've mentioned it.
So thrilled to see that 'How to Kill a Witch: The Patriarchy's Guide to Silencing Women' by Claire Mitchell and Zoe Venditozzi (@witchesofscotl1) has won the History & Biography award in the @goodreads Choice Awards. Their talk at @edbookfest has really stuck with me. ππππ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ

"People who read books not only live longer than people who donβt, they also have a longevity advantage compared to those who read newspapers or magazines, even after adjusting for variables such as age, education level, wealth and health."

@bemusedwithlife Just catching up. Noooo. Sorry it didn't go as planned. Teeth are the absolute worst (followed closely by feet and the whole reproductive system). Hope you're managing to keep comfortable until you can be seen again. π
@StaceyTrip Ah, that's very similar to me. Big company, rigid sickness absence policies. My line manager has been brilliant, thankfully. I'm doing OK now, physically and mentally, thank you. Just finding it hard to acknowledge my body is getting older and a little defective! π« Take care xx
@bemusedwithlife You're back! π Sorry to hear about the tooth. I've had two extractions but have clearly repressed all memory of what I ate in the aftermath. What I do remember, however, is eating Skips and Maltesers (not together) when I had an abscess, because they melt in the mouth!

@johnmurrays@BaskervilleJMP This sounds right up my street! Thank you again for the auto approval status on NetGalley - already downloaded to the Kindle! π
@Lou_Bookmarks Oh, wow! I might be tempted, too! I'm more of a Smirnoff Ice girl - always pick up a bottle when we go away on a self-catering holiday as a treat! π
It's Agatha Christie's birthday today, and we're delighted to announce a major exhibition on the Queen of Crime, coming autumn 2026 π΅οΈββοΈ

@SuperLaurenLove Depending on what you want from your Kindle, I'd advise against a Kindle Fire. I mainly wanted it because they have a colour screen, but I do find it a bit slow sometimes and heavy to hold. If you just want a Kindle for books, I wouldn't get one.
My mum, of course, is far more excited by the publication of Mick Herron's next book in the 'Slough House' series, which falls on my birthday. I might get it for her as a 'congratulations for giving birth to such an amazing daughter 39 years ago today' present! π
September! The best month. The advent of autumn, of jumpers, of 'back to school' mentality, and... my birthday!
And I am being thoroughly spoiled by everyone. A new Dan Brown novel, @JaniceHallett's latest book, AND the Downton Abbey film - all released around my 39th! ππ°πποΈ
Just been catching up with @EdBookFest and suddenly realised how much Maggie O'Farrell and Cariad Lloyd look alike*.
*Caveat: I often say 'oh, doesn't so-and-so look like such-and-such?!' and my partner tells me that they very rarely do, but on this one, I think I'm right! π
